Question about high ranking players + mortars

I'm still a mid-late th7 so this question is more out of curiosity than anything.
I noticed many top players keep their mortars very exposed near the outside of their base, often not even in walls. Is there a tactical reason for this? Being a th7 I still see mortars as being one of the most important defenses and can't understand why high level players seem to throw them aside. Do they really not care if the mortars get destroyed or is there more to it? Thanks in advance if you can shed light on this.

From what I understand at that level most attacks consist of large HP troops like the Golem with a few thousand HP and from what I know, the mortars are quite frankly useless against them.

Only troops that need to worry about mortars are used for luring, so they have mortars covering places were someone might lure from I'm guessing. I don't know much about champs league stuff though.

At higher level of play, more and more players use armies that aren't effected much by mortar splash. Things like golems, balloons, dragons etc. Lower level of play consists of mainly t1 troops which are easily killed by mortar splash. Additionally, the few that do push with armies such as barch, having outward mortars actually defends well against these players.

They get attacked by golems with rage and such, they have so mich hp, mortars do nothing to them, now thy guide them around because they target defense

They put the mortars in corners where their defenses don't cover. It helps kill witches and wizards which are usually dropped in edges and corners against heros

It stops luring and they don't really affect Golems or high level Heroes.

Yup, this is the reason. Luckily there are 4 corners and only 3 mortars. :D

It also stops Barching and all archer attacks which are becoming increasingly popular.

well firstly, high level players dont even rely on defense, its mainly all from offense

and im 99.99% sure that they do that to help prevent luring heroes and CC troops. and plus, most people use barbs, archers, witches and wizards for luring and killing, so the mortar actually does an even better job!
