I'm such a newbie, but this is what I do:
-I recollect eggs, milk and wool. Then feed the animals.
-I recollect any items that are already produced.
-Check my RSS
-Sell more things, especially if my silo or barn is full.
-Buy items if I need them. I check the newspaper and visit my friends.
-Ask Tom for cheesecakes (or shovels, or axes)
-Plant new crops
-Fish.

1. My main priority is keeping all my machines running, so I'll usually top up all machines ASAP. If at any point I need any crops or tertiary ingredients to do that, I'll grab them as quickly as possible and fill up my machines.
2. Once all machines are safely running, I'll grab my crops and replant anything I need to keep my silo in good balance.
3. In-between planting fields, I'll check my animals and feed status and balance that out as I need it. Stuff I need I'll harvest ASAP and the rest on an 'as-needed' basis.
4. Still keeping an eye on crops, I'll check boat/trucks/little people if I'm actually trying to get xp. I'll also check RSS and for friends who need help. I'll also check random people who might need help as well.
5. Lastly, I'll harvest/sell any fruit or bushes I have enough axes/saws for and do a bit of fishing if any fish are around.
Addendum: If I've recently topped up everything I'll prioritize crops #1. Also attempt to check DD as soon as it refreshes whenever looking for rarer goods as there's less of a chance someone else will have bought them then.
Collect crops and get offline lol.
I love to open HD in the morning/on a new day. Then I can spin the wheel, collect gift cards and maybe even try for a cool price, go the Greg's RSS and check for a mystery box on his farm. Bliss.
Other than that, the usual of course: plant, harvest, feed animals and collect from them, fish and make more lures and nets....get all machines working, sell any excess stuff, check the paper and read messages in my neighborhood, check to see if neighbors or friends needs help, check the board (and toss most orders haha)....
1. Harvest any crops from my last visit
2. Replant 1 row of common crops (to prevent me from doing what I do way too often of using my last crop, lol)
3a. Collect dairy and sugar and reload those two machines
3b. Milk the cows if I need more dairy
4. Feed pets
5. Collect from any other animals that I might need and restock feed mills
6. Start loading up my other machines, plant crops as necessary as I go
7. Check the smelters and reload if I can
8. Hire Tom for anything I'm low on
9. Check for neighbors that need help and visit farms on my last helper tab
10. Visit neighbors as I have time (will visit every farm on weekend days, but on weekdays will probably only get to visit a few outside of my various "tabs"
On my last play session of the day, I restock all machines, plant two rows of crops for the next day, etc.
I didn't answer you the other day because I am getting tired of being called names when I do. But it's a new day and others have told me they like my answers so to heck with the whiners and here goes.
Everyone plays differently as you can see from the answers you've gotten so far. Never assume what is going on in a farmers mind when you see un cut trees, or un fed pets or an empty shop. Not only does everyone have different ideas of what makes a great looking farm but they play differently and have varying ideas of what is most important. All that being said.....
I generally work my boat first because the quicker you fill it, the more the points you get.
If I don't have everything or if it has a lot of really easy things, I"ll flag some of the easy crates for lower level players.
Then I feed my pets to get the clock started again on them and to further clear barn space.
I'll then collect my feed because stacked feed is worthless when you need it and the barn is full
Then collect crops and reseed with feed plants, collect from animals and machines
Check the boat again, hopefully send it off and see what the next one needs
Then I cue my machine with boat needs and items that are low, when the barn is full, I'll check the help needed tab, and fill crates and put excess items in my shop. Harvest and planting as needed. Fill a few truck orders, maybe and trash the ones I don't want.
Finally I'll go shopping for shiny stuff and other cool items to fill more boats and replenish some of my stock.
But that's not hard and fast. If there is an event, everything gets tossed and I work the event if I like it. Some I am just lukewarm on.

LOL, I started doing that because it never fails...the thing I need most is what I will not find in the DD. Every day I can find soy, corn, carrots, etc., EXCEPT when I've just used my last one. ;)
