New Defensive Building: Trebuchet
I was thinking that there should be a better way to kill those colussi of giants that everyone uses to render my defenses helpless. I get that giants are supposed to soak up hits, but it can be infuriating to watch your defenses dimwittedly focus on the meat shield behind a wall while those delicate archers stealing your resources are the REAL problem. From what I have learned through attacks and defenses, the Cannons and Archer Towers are the most effective at quickly killing giants. However, because there are usually so many (18-20) in one place, all it takes is a healing spell/rage spell to get them past the walls, as they proceed to take out my precious point defenses. Mortars and Wizard Towers have almost 0 effect on Giants because they cant damage them faster than a healer/healing spell. Now that your splash damage buildings are gone. There is hardly anything left to protect your hard-earned treasure.
I think that the new building should be a Trebuchet. It will be a slow firing (about the same speed as a mortar), single target, air and ground defense with Giants being the favorite target for 2x damage. It's base damage at level 1 should be enough to one-hit a Barbarian, Archer, Goblin, or a level 4 Wizard (they're being crushed by a boulder). That means that it should do 22 damage per second, assuming it shoots every 5 seconds, for 110 damage every hit. Before you freak out about how OP this could be, let me draw up a few scenarios to show you how this is balanced.
If there are no Giants around to comically pelt boulders at, the Trebuchet will hit the first thing it sees. If this is a Barbarian, Archer, Goblin, or level 1-4 Wizard, it will crush them in one swift splat. But, this is fair because of how slowly the Trebuchet shoots and because it can only kill one thing at a time.
Here is the good part: when the Trebuchet hits a Giant, he will suffer a concussion and will lose a good chunk of health depending on the levels of both the Trebuchet and the Giant. The Trebuchet should be unlocked along with the many other new items at Town Hall level 7. This means that the Giants attacking you should be around level 4 (520 hp) or level 5 (670 hp). So, in a normal matchup, A level 1 Trebuchet should take out a level 4 Giant in 3 hits and a level 5 Giant in 4 hits. Obviously, it would take a while (15-20 seconds) for a Trebuchet to kill a Giant all by itself, but that's why you have other defenses to help out.
EDIT: Ok, so I hear what you guys are saying about too much damage. Perhaps it could keep the favorite target as a Giant, but lose the 2x damage. That way it kills in 5 hits instead of 3. Also, I guess I was way off when thinking of a good base hp. We could change that to 300 hp. Lastly, I will change it to Ground Only after thinking about the logic and physics of how an actual Trebuchet works.
So here's what the stats for a level 1 Trebuchet should look like:
Damge per second : 22
Hitpoints: 300
Range: 9 tiles
Damage Type: Single Target
Targets: Ground Only
Favorite Target: Giant (No damage boost)
Unlocked at Town Hall level 7
