[Discussion][Guide]Farming and Trophy base Cores-1000 posts special
NOTE: this is a work in progress thread.
also, this does not tell you how to build the best or extremely strong core. its purpose is to use these tips and ideas and INCORPORATE them; not just using all the ideas here as they wont, although they will be quite strong and are keys to a successful base, make
This is both a guide and discussion on how to build a strong core for both farming and trophy pushing bases. The goal of this thread is to give all players, but mainly premmie th8's and above and lower levels, advice on how to build a strong core as well as giving advice to others.
What is a core?
The core is the main part of the base. The base is usually built around this and if the core is weak, the whole base is likely to be weak. Usually, a core tells you what kind of base it is. For example, if there is no town hall in the core of the base and has mostly resources in the center, then it is probably a farming base. if there is a town hall in the center and many strong defenses like wizard towers and mortars, then it is probably a trophy base. However, some people incorporate both, which is called a Hybrid base.

Focuses of a farming core
In a farming core, the main focuses are resources and protecting them. Depending on your needs, you will put the storage for one resource in the core, or maybe even all of the storage. HOWEVER, it is highly recommended to first put your clan castle in the center in place of the town hall. There are 2 main reasons for this.
1. The clan castle has high hp, so it can easily distract a group of archers or barbs before going for your precious resources.
2. The clan castle can become your strongest defense. If it has, for example, 25 archers, it can do well over 300 dps. The advantage of it being in the center is that it wont be lured as easily, maximizing the use of cc troops. However, if you put it on the outside, all that dps will be wasted. Your opponent could drop a few archers and all your cc troops will come out, making them very vulnerable and wasting them.
So now that the clan castle is in the center, finally you will place your storages. My advice is that you should alternate between resources if youre putting multiple resources in the center so that less loot will be stolen.
Your storage is your top priority and you want to protect them as efficiently as possible. A great way to do this is to use wizard towers. Wizard towers are very effective against hordes of goblins especially due to goblins having low health and wizard towers will fry them. I personally think that they are better than mortars at protecting storages since they attack much faster so it is much more effecient. Wizard towers protecting storages is also a key component since it will stop many tier 1 troops from touching your storages since they have splash damage.
Here is an example of a very basic core:

As you see, my resources are in the center along with the clan castle. The wizard towers are also covering the storages and overlapping at the same time, creating a huge splash damage.
However, you are taking a risk with putting storages in the core-if they do break in, you are done for. they will take all your resources (or most of them.) so be careful!
List of which defenses should be covering storages (highest priority to lower priority)
-Clan castle
-Wizard Tower
-Air defense/Tesla
-Mortar
-Air defense/Tesla (choose the one that isnt covering the storages already)
-Traps
Think of traps as your last resort. They can change the outcome of whether you lose your storages or not.
Mortar is low because it attacks so slow and if you compare wizard towers and mortars attack speed, in 5 seconds, a wizard tower will deal much much more damage. and actually, both have equal range. mortars can only hit in a 7 tile area since it hits far away but not up close. wizard towers shoot up close only. however, you can put mortars and wizard towers together to make up for their short comings and switch your mortar's places with your third defense you put in or near your core (AD/Tesla)
Air defense may or may not be valuable as it can stop giant healer raids. if you dont need AD, swap it with your tesla and vice versa. teslas have deadly dps when level 4+ and attack very fast though so i recommend using teslas in/near your core instead of air defense.

These two towers can pick off units quickly that have taken damage and with an X-bow it need not be super close to the storage to do its job.
This is very important^^^^ as well.
The do's and don't's of farming cores (and inbetween like optional or your choice)
So there are quite a few things in farming cores that you should do and things that you should do and should NOT do. however there are some things that are your choice. (i am gonna add some pics later.)
What you should do (Do's)
-Clan castle in the center (explained why above)
-Make it segmented so it is harder for your opponent to get your storage (still vulnerable to air troops)
-Upgrade the walls in your core FIRST before outer layers
-Try covering your storages with your wizard towers
-Use correct wall intersections (stagger them)
What you SHOULDN'T do (Dont's)
-Keeping a storage in the dead center (i see a lot of people doing this but do not do this! it wastes space for you valuable cc)
-Using normal T-intersections (susceptible to wall breakers)
-Making your core way too big (if your opponent gets there, it is all over.)
-Putting defenses like cannons and archer towers (trust me, i see many people doing this, they are better on the outside as they dont do splash damage)

Good (read notes)
+Uses a clan castle in the center
+it is segmented with the highest lvl walls in the center
+Uses staggered walls
+Not a big core

Bad (dont do this)
-normal t intersections
-all storages are in the center
-mortars are the only thing protecting them
-clan castle isnt in the center
Vault cores
One of the most common type of cores are vault cores. Vault cores are cores that dont have any defenses in them and have only resources and cc in the center, and occasionally another layer of walls around it. I personally find it hard to make vaults at th 8 and below so ideally, to make a vault, you should be th9+. Once you feel comfortable making strong cores, you should try making a vault. The key points of a vault are:
1. no defenses in the core
2. only storages and cc
3. can be used very effectively to defend your loot
4. however, a good sweep of goblins going to your core will pretty much ruin you.
5. sometimes, there is another layer of walls to stop tier 1 troops.
im not gonna go into too much detail about vaults as there is already a guide about it. however, i do recommend that you go check it out and try making one yourself!
Well that finishes the farming cores part. Pm me or post here if you have advice or questions. if you need to know about trophy cores, see the next post!
