In which level you actually start to need all producing animals?

I'm at level 43 at the moment and have been very conservative in adding new producing animals. I currently have 12 chickens, 10 cows and pigs, five sheep and four goats. When my barn space is tight, I leave my chickens to wait egg collecting for long times. When I have more room, I try to keep eggs a highest number item in my barn to make little people to ask them. I sell milk regularly and bacon has been basically hazardous waste in my farm, though now I have couple products I like to produce for sale that actually need bacon. Pigs just look so pitiful both when hungry and when waiting for a collect that I don't have heart to leave them like that. Wool is something I once in the blue moon am left wanting, but it is easy to buy, and cheap too. And no one wants to buy wool products anyway, so not a big loss, if my loom goes without work for hour or two now and then. Goat milk I at times sell, if I or my friends don't get goat milk boats in some time.

When I visit other farms, I notice most higher level farms have all possible animals, but then again, so have most in my level. At the moment I'm making good coins from selling lots of animal feed and would loathe to give that away and have to produce more feed for my own animals, so I'm not planning adding up my animal count, and they take so much space too. But in which point will I have to do it?

Im about to turn to level 53. The only animals I use regularly are cows....my dairy is constantly going. The pigs I use regularly too and I always make sure that I have plenty of feed for cows and pigs. The chickens, well, I only take a few eggs at a time for the items I need to make other than that they are left ready to be collected. My goats are constantly left ready for collection. I set up goats cheese in the dairy right before I go to sleep and make sure I have feed ready for them. The sheep are never collected - I just don't use wool, I don't sell it either.

I have maximum number of cows, pigs, chickens. 8 goats and 9 sheep and I wish I'd never bothered with that many sheep!

i personally prefer to make excess dairy products and sell those as they all tend to sell very well.

Oh, my dairy is working full-time day and night, with long enough queue that it doesn't stop working during nights etc. I sell a bit and help my friends, but mostly I get all my dairy products used to making other products already. But my Dairy still doesn't use all the milk I can collect. And I have noticed I need more regular cheese than goat cheese, so there is extra goat milk too.

I don't have problem with milk or goat milk, they sell quite well in reasonable price in RSS. And adding third cow pen is something I'm at least considering, but again, it takes space and I would have to reorganize and _really_ hate that.

Ok I have two farms one a level 62 and one a level 72. With the level 72, I can not keep enough eggs, or milk. Not cream and butter, those are a problem of course but even milk. I also have trouble keeping bacon. So I need every last one of those chickens and I wish I could have a few more. The level 62 is also always short of eggs. Once you get there, you have a slew of new machines and product that use eggs, especially and the new juicer uses milk in one of the smoothies.

When I open my farm in the morning and collect from my animals, then feed my pets, I can't get through half my machines without running out of animal products. And the higher level machines don't just need one egg for a product but the Mayo needs four eggs which is then used on an egg sandwich which uses even more. Lemon curd uses eggs as does the lemon cakes and lemon pies. It's crazy. Then there is egg sushi and all the salads and sandwiches that use bacon. And there are quite a few items that use goat cheese, like tomato soup (I don't understand that one either), Greek salad, feta pie, potato feta cakes etc. about the only animal product I don't run out of is the wool, but I don't have any problem selling it for max price. It might just take a little while.

I agree Tigg. Before the updates with the new machines and products, I would have lots of eggs and milk...too much really at the time, but now, my poor chickens barely have time to breathe before I'm wanting more eggs. I've had to buy eggs several times just to keep up production.

I agree with you Jess and Tigg - I have 12 chicken, 15 cows and pigs, 10 sheep and 4 goats. I am seriously considering another pen of goats and like Jess's chickens mine are producing a lot more eggs since the updates.

I have less animals than you and am doing fine.

It depends on whether you go for coins or xp.

10 Chicken feeds are 72, and eggs are 180, but eggs simply take too long to sell. If you wait for the neighbors, you should count it as 112 coins for 10 eggs.

For cows, feeds are 144, and milk are 324. Pigs, 144 and 504. Sheep, 144 and 540. Goat, 144 and 648.

Wool takes time to sell, but is still easier than eggs. It takes time to produce anyway. So, its best to have cows and goats, then pigs and sheeps, chickens are actually my lowest priority.

Despite speaking this, I have all animals, and I often buy feed in RSS, so all my animals are always fed. I just often stockpile 70-100 eggs and wait for the neighbors.

I got all of them as soon as they become available to me, coin-permitting of course. I prefer to get my own animal produce such as milk, bacon, wool and eggs rather than buying them. I only ever resort to buying IF I've totally run out due to mismanagement or forgetting to feed the animals and that my production queues will be stopped.

It really comes down to your individual playing style. If you'd prefer to just buy animal products all the way through every level, it's perfectly fine. You won't have to remember to keep them well-fed and ready to harvest and you can stock up on a need-to-basis which will also save you barn space, which will prove to be quite priceless.

Oh, I never sell eggs in RSS, except few serious barn space emergencies, when I'm basically giving them free. I don't like to keep things hanging in my RSS. I only sell with the price things keep moving nicely. Only exception is occasional one full priced bacon slice when I want to attract long term attention for my boat needing help. I hate to ask people help to clean up my RSS in my neighbourhood and that one bacon slice usually sells before too long.

Will there be many products in higher level that ask actual milk to make? I'm wondering, because my dairy is in full work already, I can't produce any more cream, butter or either cheese anyway, so if those future products need dairy products like cream, adding cows would not help one iota. I have too much milk from 10 cows for my dairy to handle anyway.

A level 61 farm I saw this morning had only 5 cows. This farm also had 12 chickens,
5 pigs, 5 sheep, and 4 goats.


My level 59 farm has no pigs. My 6 chickens have been sufficient and produce surplus eggs if over harvested. If a boat asks for animal products then for me that means shopping.


Tiggerr let's us know that at higher levels with more products available to make the need for animal products is significantly increased.


It seems like you probably have enough animals for the animal harvesting achievements if that is an interest to you.

Level 43: 12 chickens, 10 cows, 5 pigs and sheeps and 8 goats.

I've seen farms above level 60 that still don't have all the animals. So I hope I never have to buy the rest of the animals.

I have six chickens, eight goats, 10 sheep and 15 each of pigs and cows.

The way I play it I could easily slaughter half my sheep and five pigs. I can pick up eggs cheaply at the moment as they are required for higher level items, I have a stock of wool and bacon in case a boat comes calling and a couple of times a day I'll harvest bacon to feed the dogs and use on bacon products.

I have the animal feed machines on as much as I can to help achieve the mastery... Only 3000 hours to go!!!

But you see when you don't sell eggs, then folks like me can't find them as easily as we might like. I regularly end up buying eggs at max price because when I need them I need them and at level 72, the difference between 180 coins and 100 is insignificant.

And BLT salad that needs 2 mayo with its 8 eggs
Level 63 the is the egg sushi that uses 4 eggs
Level 64 is a seafood salad with 1 mayo (4 eggs)
Level 65 BLT toast with the four eggs mayo
Level 66 has lemons curd 2 eggs and
Egg sandwiches 2 eggs and the afore mentioned 4 egg mayo
Level 67 lemon pie with 1 egg and one 2 egg lemon curd
Level 68 lemon cake 2 eggs and 2 lemon curds with 4 more eggs

Level 47 has hot chocolate with one milk and one cream and tomato soup that wants goat cheese
Level 53 has fish soup that needs 1 milk

Level 64 has the yogurt smoothie with one cream

So you see the eggs alone required after the sauce maker is introduced are greatly increased. I didn't even list the extra bacon requirements for the sandwiches and salads. I imagine we might soon see another smoothie using goat milk with the popularity of Greek yogurt. Who knows. All I know is that for the first half of my hay day playing day, I can't keep up with the needs of my machines yet alone my poor pets. I am constantly looking for extras in the dirt, plus keep in mind I have a second farm with fewer pets that I could buy from but it can't keep up either. If I play all day and do nothing else, (hey it happens) I am sometimes able to sell off some eggs. I did that today and my next two boats asked for bacon and eggs.

Not know what level you are at, I can't tell you what future products might use just milk. If you haven't opened the coffee machine, you will find it requires milk for some of its products. I got my list from the guide book but it doesn't yet have all the smoothie info. You can find the link in my signature and in the main guides and topic sticky.

I usually have an abundance of goat milk and wool but find myself buying lots of eggs, milk and bacon regularly.

With a lot of new recipes which have been added recently and working on the new machine masteries I use a lot of eggs, bacon and milk is usually used to fill 9 slots of the dairy feed 6 cats and a few other items here and there.

Luckily animal products are pretty easy to get in the DD so you don't need to really have your animals. That being said making the feed for them, collecting the feed, the animal products and so on does add up xp in the end and will help towards leveling up. Levels take a long time at higher levels.

Exactly. IMHO, not having all the animals is like not planting all your fields. I'm not talking about the couple you might use for decoration, like the pumpkins last Halloween, I'm talking about just leaving half of them empty. Think of all the free products and XP you miss out on.

I have all the animals pens at level 53. I keep my machines running almost 24/7 and still buy stuff in the rss if I don't have enough.

I would suggest to NOT buy all the animals which products are easily found in the DD, like chickens. At the level I am I need a lot of eggs (like Tigg said) but always find them on the DD. Pig also, since bacon is always for sale. Of course, the sheeps for the same reason, wool and wool products are always for sale.

Exception...cows. Although you can always find milk, you be needing milk quite a lot.

What's your reason for not buying them? Is it because you want the space for other things? Is it easier for you to pay for what you could make for free? With such a lag opening up the newspaper, I'd rather harvest from the chickens for free rather than pay for the eggs, but that's me. Just because you can buy them doesn't make it the fiscally sound thing to do, so I was wondering why you choose to do that. No judgements, just curiosity. I've often said I'd rather buy at max price than look through the whole paper hoping for a bargain. Also not fiscally sound but easier and faster for me.

I'm one of those with only 12 chicken, and I have only 10 cows and 5 pigs.

The reason is, I don't want my farm to look like a mass pig or chicken farm; I prefer a more romantic look with a lot of vegetation, natural trees and swamps and such.

One of my feed mills is reserved for cow and chicken feed, which I produce in equal amounts. I use my cows and chicken for the "barn dance", so they don't run the risk of getting forgotten. I have always more than enough milk and eggs for my needs and my friends needs. In fact I sometimes sell milk and cow feed in my shop and I sell eggs to the visitors at least once a day.

Of course I dedicate several hours per day to farming.

For me reluctance of getting more producing animals is for several reasons. One is space. I of course don't have all the land in use yet (those markers just don't appear from my fields, ever), but growing berries takes a lot of space, and makes excellent coin. I also have reserved 'hunting ground' for my hound and keep that part of my farm in natural state. Takes a lot of space but is certainly not something I'm willing to sacrifice for chicken or pig pen.

Also, while milk and goat milk sell okay price, bacon and eggs don't. If I need to, I may add one more cow pen later, but that is only if I need actual milk to produce things later. All my dairy products already are used to produce other things and I have mastered my dairy, so where will be no possibilities to make more dairy products than I already am. When new products open that need cream or butter or cheese, I just have to check if they are more worth it to produce than the current ones I use those products. Adding cows will not help me have more cream or butter or cheese. Pig, sheep and goat feed take also quite a long time to produce. Using that time to make chicken feed for sale, makes better coin than goat milk or wool.

I also hate it how pigs look when waiting for collecting and they look way too pitiful when waiting to be fed. So I just can't leave them to either state and that way regulate the amount of bacon. And my barn space being what it is, having 30 slice of bacon in barn just hurts like heck.

As for the space you may want to plan ahead as there are still plenty of thing you haven't unlocked yet.

When I started playing this game there were no land expansions yet. I was well in level the lvl 40s when the first expansion plots were first added to the game. Believe it or not but everything you can have at level 43 actually fits on the basic farm land before you even open up one plot of land.

The egg sellers will love you, especially in a few more levels. We all do our part don't we. Lol. I'll keep selling wool and goat milk for you too. Seriously, while I still think getting all of the animals is the best way to go, about the only exception to that might be the sheep. Even the addition of red scarves didn't really increase the need for wool except during the special wooly event. Maybe SC could increase boat orders for sweaters and hats. I can dream right!

As other have said, mainly because of space. I know I can fit more animals but I like everything well organized with space in between. Having everything too close to each other just, well, cramp my style. I am currently wheating for more LEMs so I can spread out machines, trees, and crops instead of buying new things (animals, tress, bushes, etc) to fill in the space. I also had a large "hanging out/resting space" in my farm which I had to shrink to accommodate lemon trees. I want that "retrieve" back.

Also, at this level the coins are abundant. I have over 4 mil even when purchasing eggs and such. BTW, I also purchase fruits when running low on saws/axes because I do not like having brown trees/bushes. And as you, I do not mind buying at max price, again, abundance of coins.

At level 56, I have 12 chickens, 15 cows, 10 sheep, 10 pigs & 8 goats. Right now it suits me. After reading the list Tiggr posted, I may have to have more in the future. I don't want them because everything fits nicely together now but on the other hand i do want them because of the "free stuff" (EMs, dynamite etc.) you get when you harvest!

I have absolutly EVER animal available you can buy !!!!!!! And that's still not enough. As I levelled up & gained more coins I would buy more animals & I don't regret one purchase.

That's great Tiggerr :D I just added you and will visit often, save eggs, wool and goat milk for me lol

Regardless of whether you use the products, just by making them you will earn xp. By collecting the produce you will get free goodies, some of my best stuff comes from collecting from the animals. You don't have to sell them through RSS, you can just sell them to the little people when they visit.

It's more than just, how many do I need to produce!!!

Farms that continually produce at close to maximum level up faster just through producing.

So it IS you. I suspected it for some time but could never catch you in the act. And I also noticed that you only take them from my level 74 farm. I guess slumming down to the 60's is too much for you. Ok then. You just better keep an eye on your topiaries . Yeah right like I want those on my farm. Your hanging out resting place reminds me of another game I used to play where you designed homes. They gave you a massive living room and the couch was so small, I could fit a tv viewing area, a fireplace and furniture around it, a piano and room for people to listen or dance and a corner to play foosball or do karaoke. And maybe some sort of library. It was ridiculous. You'd love it!

I just opened the game as it has updated several times since I played last. They have added an annoying pop up ad, one was for Expedia, and you are given the choice of "try it now" or "later." I have no intention nor need to try out expedia, but because I can only choose "later" it popped up every time I switched between my houses. People who complain about this game should really play some of the others. Hayday is the only one I continue to play. Each update changes the game play but doesn't require me to respond to an ad or purchase anything to continue playing. Oh well.
