Pros/cons of exposed TH

So tonight I was kind of bored and decided to go through my defense log, starting with the oldest. I happened to find somebody who has full gold (4 million) containers, and full-appearing gold collectors, and roughly 3.5 million elixir. It was shielded. However, it obviously seemed like somebody preparing for a TH upgrade, which means as long as it is on my defense log, it will be something I will want to keep a close eye on, and hit whenever I have the chance (it is the kind of base I would think strongly about hitting, if I came across it with ample loot in a search, neither particularly hard nor easy).

Pros:

-frequent cheap shields for minimal resource loss
-more frequent attacks period, which allows you to queue up a potential hit list, if not auto-revenges
-allows you to study a base as long as you want, and also to keep easy to defeat bases on backburner for when they get lots of loot
-doesn't cost gold to check in on them
-when pushing, you can go back several days in defense log and try to hit weaker/younger bases for 50+ trophies
-can queue up multiple lightning spells and zap the hell out of high th bullies who have massive de for thousands of de

Cons:

-hemorrhages cups, so you need to farm somewhat cup-consciously in order to stay at a given range
-more frequent attacks period, since a base with exposed TH > same base with guarded TH. Being hit while cooking army FTL. Pretty much adds a star to every full raid, since they cannot lose if they play it properly
-game sometimes goes full ♥♥♥♥♥♥, and you can neither revenge, nor view a replay? :confused:

nice add to con: attacker is guaranteed to have a win by sniping th so they go all out on your base for a 2-3 star

con : outside TH is boring. Why upgrade all those defense and design a clever base when they never get tested.

Aka the free roll. I really like it when Someone has something I want and an exposed TH, guarantees it won't be a total loss.



the no revenge no replay sounds like you were revenged just prior to a maintainence break where all replays are wiped.

but yeah seems like there are no real downsides other than the free roll and losing cups.

The analogy of someone who exposing their townhall :

You can kill me , murder me , but pretty please , do not take my precious gold / elixir / dark elixir

You can take my soul , but please , do not take my wealth

Just like in real world , wealth above everything else

I disagree with the latter. As previously mentioned, an exposed th is a green light to farmers, so it doesn't exactly lower the odds of an all-out raid, just makes them less frequent due to snipers sometimes getting to you first.

Disagree! They usually just TH snipe you losing only 1 star. When TH is inside they will have to commit meaning you will usually lose 2 or even 3 stars. TH outside is an almost certain 1 star loss, but that is so easily manageable. I have reached 2800 with a TH8 like that. Gives you a good night rest knowing you will lose only 1 star.

Never happened to me before, I always get 1 starred... They have a choice, 1 star absolutely free (AQ snipe TH) or 2 stars and have to completely commit, possibly not even getting the second star. I would just snipe the TH for free.

I don't really see a con in TH outside. I do so when trophy pushing and when farming....

I recently went up to crystal 2 and changed my farming base in to a trophy base. Now I have to work both loot and cups. The game hasn't been this fun for me in ages.

Nice well composed thread mate.

One small query. Is it not classed as free shielding rather than cheap shielding. Is cheap shielding not something totally different?

My understanding was that free shielding was when you got one starred giving you a shield, whereas cheap shielding is where you get 40% (I think it is) for a shield without losing a star. I could of course be wrong, it's not uncommon.

As as for going back on your raids, I did this the other day and like you found someone resource rich, but regardless of when I check they are online! I actually revenged my way back to crystal for the hell of it. Got some annoying revenges though. Im level 79, and revenged a level 100 plus who took over 30 cups off me and I only got 19 on offer for a 3 star (managed a 2). Revenged a level 50 and only 1 cup was available regardless of stars gained.
