I'm interested in the number of clans there are so I can see what percentile we are in. It would also be nice to know personal trophy rank as well, however, I know that would be more difficult to integrate.
Any way, does anyone know the number of clans?

No one knows, especially when you consider the clans with zero people, the clans that Supercell may have deleted, and the clans that might have been made in the time for me to write this response.
That would make your idea difficult to implement..
Million of clans
Based on some basic principle of chaos theory and theory of large numbers, it can actually be worked out quite easily.
A preliminary calculation as of 4 minutes ago gave a value of 7,654,867 clans.

One way you can check this out is go to 0 trophies and create a clan, with just you - when you go to "top clans" you can scroll down and find your clan - for example my clan atm is 12,000th in trophies, if your at 0 cups for your clan then you will obviously be close to the bottom, therefore getting a good estimate to how many clans there is
