Bino, I think you're right on this point, results is what counts.
The rule of thumb that X-junctions are poor very often is true, but it is just a rule of thumb. You always have to do a little logic check in your head and find out why they might be poor in a given design.
For example, the X-junction on the Eastern end could theoretically be blown, and open the compartments for AT, mortar, and cannon in one go. But how easy is it really to target that junction? A WB dropped to the East of the camp will target the closest enclosed building (AT or cannon), run towards it, and blow a wall that isn't part of that junction. The only way it's going to target that X is if both the cannon and AT are already gone, in which case it won't matter one bit that those compartments get opened. While it may be possible to somehow get at that junction earlier, it just doesn't seem like anyone could pull it off with any degree of reliability.
