My Clan Wars suggestion
OK, this will be my suggestion about Clan Wars. Some of these ideas might have popped in the forums previously. Stats and facts have been underlined.
#1 - Choosing the clan/alliance to fight against
Option #1 - Clan vs Clan
This is the basic model where you find a clan you want to fight against, send a war declaration and if the other clan accepts it, you enter a Clan War. Only the leader can declare a war, but the clan the leader can choose has some requirements. First, both clans need to have at least 25 members to avoid exploitation. Also, they cannot have a trophy difference larger than 2,500 trophies. Why is it so wide-ranged? One clan could already be pushing while other is just starting, but this can definitely tweaked.
Option #2 - Multiple clans fight each other
The same rules apply when choosing clans, but instead of one, the leader will send out multiple declarations.
Option #3 - Alliance vs Alliance
This is the most complicated (and in my opinion, the most interesting) type. First, you will join another clan, and both of them must have at least 25 members and the trophy difference cannot be larger than 1,000 trophies to avoid exploitation and also avoid taking more powerful clans in when fighting against less powerful alliance. Alliance Leader will be the leader who sent the first invitation. Alliance can have more than two clans, all must meet the requirements stated above. So when you are in an alliance, clan members can read each other's chats and even donate troops. Also, you would have a specific co-leader chat. This would make communicating with the other clans' leaders easier and less cluttered. A clan leader can specifically disable the clan wide chatting and donating, but by default, its enabled. Co-Leaders can also ban players if they don't behave or donate off the request. My idea on how to implement this in the UI would be that when you slide your chat open, you could keep sliding to make it full screen (who really needs the base to be open all the time while chatting?) and new tabs would appear, taking you in to the other clans chats. This would make it more collaborated, because players can now share their strategies, advices and even troops.
#2 - Sending and accepting/rejecting war declaration
This is pretty basic, when the clan/alliance leader has found a clan/alliance to send a war declaration, (s)he can do that. The war declaration also contains the leader's own personal message. Then, in the other clan's/alliance's leader's inbox, will appear a war declaration. The leader can either accept it or reject it. Both actions will show up in the chat, telling other members what's going on. The declaration will expire in one week.
#3 - In War
If clans/alliances have entered the war, it will last maximum one season (two weeks). At the beginning players will normally push cups, but the last 5 days (this definitely can be tweaked) players will attack each others every hour when they tap the Find a match -button, they will be given a player from one of the clans they are fighting. This happens only once in an hour so that heavy gemmers wouldn't crush others so easily. Also, every time you lose an attack, you will lose one ticket. At the start, you have five tickets, meaning you can lose an attack five times. Then you will be dropped from the game, but you can normally keep attacking. In between the hour, they can normally attack other players.
But lets go deeper into how this once in an hour attack a player from the rival clan -thing works. When you start searching and it is the hour time again, you will be given a player from any of the clans that you are fighting against. There isn't a trophy range, but at the start, there is a ranking range. Lets say you are in rank 23. in your clan. This means that you can attack players from the other clans in the rank range of 20.-29. The players can be found even if they are online or on shield, because there are relatively so few players to attack. But every day, you have the option to skip one hour, meaning a one hour special shield, for example if you need to change your base. Otherwise you will attack the same as usually, only the opponent can actually view the attack in real-time. The player who loses will be dropped from this special matchmaking queue, and the winning opponent will gain extra cups, lets say double cups. For example, if I attack someone and win the attack and the game has given me with its secret algorithm 23 trophies, I would actually get 46 trophies. I was thinking that perhaps the losing opponent would only lose 23 trophies, thus this would create trophies to help solo playing as well. Not sure about this, though. But anyways, during those days, people will slowly drop from the matchmaking queue with only two players left. If the time runs out and there are more than two players, the two with most attacks won will be selected.
And here comes the grand finale, which every player can watch. Those two selected will attack a base created by Supercell. This base needs to be fairly big and hard and can of course break maximum building counts, so you could be fighting like 10 xbows. Those two best players (maybe not best trophies, but best attacking skills) of the clan wars can select the troops what they want to use with total capacity of 240. These troops are maxed out and they don't cost anything or take any time to train. The players will just select the troops and how many of each, then they will choose five spells and are also given with lvl40 heroes even if their own weren't lvl40. Then they can attack the massive base and who gains more percentages will win the prize, which is 50 trophies to the attacker and 10 trophies to all players in his/her clan. After this, the clans will be ranked by trophies and are awarded with prizes.

I have seen this manny times before and someone else already did something exactly like how you explained, with pictures.
