Make Battle Matches by Trophies AND Level

I'm a regular player of Clash of Clans, and have until recently been an avid fan of the game, but lately I am finding myself considering giving it up due to what I perceive as a serious imbalance in the metric by which players find opponents to attack. The fact that level apparently doesn't figure into the calculation for matching players, means that all a player needs to do place their town hall in an easy to destroy location, then raid a village. The defender then clicks the revenge button, notes how easy it would be to win the battle, and claims the original aggressor's trophies without ever necessarily destroying much of their village or taking any of their resources. This tactic allows the player to keep their trophies artificially low, even as they become vastly more powerful and mis-matched from their peers.

In this case, the player was nearly twice my level (and VASTLY more powerful), yet was still matched against me because they had managed to keep their trophies to less than 1000 (at the time they attacked me).

I budget roughly $10/Month to spend on Clash of Clans, because the game makes it appear as though you can build a good defense and try to save for upgrades, or buy gems and get the upgrades faster. Given the current player matching algorithm, though, this is not the case. At the point at which one has roughly a million gold or elixir saved, a player who can successfully raid your village can take the exact amount from you that you can save in the period of time your shields go up after an attack. If matches were made fairly, this would be fine, because a player could continue saving during attacks in which their defense was successful.

However, when an attacker is twice as powerful as a defender (either because the attacker exploits a loophole in the system, or simply spends significantly more money on the game than the defender), there is little to nothing the defender can do, save for sit in a permanent state of stasis, providing a constant supply of resources to dishonest players, or shell over more cash to buy their upgrade.

I've seen this tactic used against me time and time again - to the extent where my shields are rarely down for more than half an hour before I'm attacked, and the only players that attack me are radically more powerful than I could ever hope to defend against. This leaves me more frustrated with the game than entertained by it, and forces me to wonder why I'm spending money on it in the first place.

I would hope that the team at Supercell was unaware of this fundamental imbalance in the game metric, and will move to correct it. If not, I can only assume that this was an intentional design decision to encourage an "arms race" of spending on gems by players, and I'll be forced to spend my gaming entertainment budget elsewhere.

The given picture is not that ridiculous. The trophy system is excellent because it allows players to choose where they want to be. A level 60 with 1000 trophies will never attack a level 20, he'll be significantly poorer than the level 60 and will have nowhere near the desired loot. Conversely, trophy hunters lead poor and usually miserable lives, and compose the sadder portion of players who are gold one/ crystal three and get 3-starred twice a day. The trophy system keeps players at where they want to be, and that includes everyone.

Matching has always been simply on trophies and this is a good thing.

It allows players to try to find places with better loot, or places where they feel they will be less vulnerable to attack.

Trophies are also the scale on which "how good you are" is judged in the game (well SuperCell would like us all to think so)

So this guy has L5 troops and an OK TH8 base and he beat you. You imply that you are L30ish. He is in fact better than you.

My town hall is in precisely the same sort of position, why would I risk being raided for loot when I can give some trophy hunter a free 8-12 trophies.

I couldn't disagree with this sentiment more. A player who has twice the attack power of another player is in no way more skilled, just better equipped. The "better" player is the one with superior offensive and defensive strategy, on a level playing field. The problem with the current system is that the playing field is far from level.

It sounds like your primary objection to my request is that you are one of the very players who is taking advantage of this loophole to hinder others' progress in the game. When you first start the game, one of the first instructions you are given is to protect your town hall at all costs. If Clash of Clans were chess, the Town Hall would be the king. Sacrificing that for the sake of "feeding trophy hunters" means you're sidestepping the entire point of a strategy role-playing game. You're essentially playing a totally different game than the rest of us. If all you're interested in is hoarding loot and building a bigger town, play Sim City; but don't force those of us that assume we're playing a strategy game to be mired in an endless struggle of being helplessly pummeled by players we couldn't possibly defend against and have all the work we've put into the game thrown out the window.

The playing field is not supposed to be level. Clash of Clans is not chess. Clash of Clans is more like war. The people with the most resources (time and money in this case), the most powerful toys, and the most skill win.

You seem to think that it should be just fine to climb to the top of the trophy ranking with a ♥♥♥♥ base. Well it's not. Doing what you suggest would completely invalidate the whole idea behind making your base better. The problem is -you- are playing a totally different game than the rest of us. -You- want to play chess. The rest of us are playing Clash of Clans.

You say this to someone who was, at level 20, routinely attacked by players level 60 or higher.

The problem is that the only way to get anywhere in the game is to save gold and elixir, or buy it. If you opt to save it, you will have enough resources on hand to justify raids by higher level players. I know this, because it's happened to me every single day for the past 3 weeks while I've been trying to save the required 1.5 Million elixir needed to upgrade my barracks.

What you should be doing is posting your base in the tactics forum and asking for help. I guarantee you're doing something wrong. Saving up enough resources to keep your builders busy should be trivial at this level of the game.

I completly agree with you. I hate when i log in amd see that i jave bin 3 star destroyed by a 30 lvl higer than me. I think they should do something about it at least set a 10 lvl diference so you can attack 10 lvl lower and higher so it would be fair for farmers and trophy hunters.

So what happens to the folks who are level 200? What about others who donate a lot? Level means nothing in terms of offensive and defensive strength or skill. If something like this were implemented, the leader board would be dominated by low level villages because they have much quicker to build armies and are much easier to attack.

Well for those player champions league could be problem solver. That in champions league stays same rule maybe i dont know this i just a good idea that supercell can work out the best way they know.

Yeah I agree with dahimi but it is pretty good idea.
