They have to add an AntiBot ♥♥♥♥ because the top players will do this and this 5 to 10 Minutes break after 12 hour playing is just for those who use the gamemechanics for getting an shield for free. (you cant get attacked if you are online)

At least they can give us that free shield on PLANNED MAINTANANCE BREAKS (please read again, because some peoples have a problem on understanding, maybe not you, but someone does)...
I can buy a shield or not.

During maintenance breaks all players are offline so be happy that you will not be raided during those periods. There is no need to give you a shield for that time.
For the very short personal break the best reason is that it is good for the game as it gives a small chance of raiding people onstead of then being online 24/7 with various means. The timer was recently changed to six hours.
