Farming - Is it the proper way to play?

Hi, before you call me a randal for being new the forums, I've been playing Clash for a couple months now ever since I started again. I'm currently struggling to push in the gold league as a TH7 and I know my way around stuff. I like this game. It would be nice if people listened and considered this thread. What I'm about to write up here is probably something most will disagree with as its a touchy topic. But I ask of you, read the whole thing.
The touchy topic I'm about to go over is Farming - the act of dropping trophies and putting your TH outside for free shields to let your collectors overload and get easy loot raids.
Sorry if my grammar is bad, its not my strong suit.

I'm aware many people do it and even I've done it myself. But it has to go for being a cheap way to play. Why it may be cheap? I'll just list the reasons.
-Easy raids-
You drop down to a lower league to where your troops should overwhelm almost anything of the TH levels that make up most of that particular league. Now you go steal a bunch of loot and trophies from some lower leveled person that stands very little chance to defend it, no matter his setup. Does the defender deserve to loose all those trophies and loot to something he has no chance against? You're trying to push and you're practically getting penalized trophies. Sure it doesn't really matter in the long-run, but its like pitting a fight between a fish and a shark. Lopsidedness like that shouldn't be in any game.
Now you may think "how often does defenses like THAT happen!", a lot actually. Especially in the Silver and Gold league. Most of my defenses contain mass lvl 5 Archer attacks, Golems, Hogs, and other troops I just can hardly defend at my level. My sister is only in TH5 and she constantly gets raided by healing spells from farmers and darktroops which are again, near undefendable at TH5.
Tackling the last part on this issue, people I've talked to about this says its fair on people trying to push in the lower league too since they get a free 1-star. Is placing down a couple of troops really a legit and intended way to gain cups?
-It's just a shortcut-
Even though there isn't difficulties in Clash, gaining resources become incredibly easy while farming. With nothing but the other farmer being able to get a decent raid on you in a lower trophy range, it just turns saving up gold/elixir from "hard" to "eZ". Now why can't anyone just save up for stuff in their proper trophy range under a proper difficulty? Why should you get the option to make a multiplayer game easier? Its pretty clear that farming seems a bit superior compared to normal pushing, why allow something thats clearly superior?
-Free shields-
So we all know how people in the champions league used to make alt accounts to give each other free 40% shields. Farming is essentially the same thing, just with the purpose of easy resources and random people give the free shield for you for some stupidly easy trophies.

Now what I think should happen as a solution? Make finding raids based on village level and TH level, not trophies.

Now I know a TON of people farm here and I don't mean any offense whatsoever to the people who do. I just think that the non-farmers deserve a fairer chance to push trophies without getting weighed down by undefendable people. I and hopefully many others are sick of seeing lines of defeat in their defense logs against people that outlevel them by a lot or victories from trophy droppers.

Welcome to the forums! Could we see a picture of your base? If you post one, we might be able to help you with making it better. Putting your town hall on the edge will help make lower lvl ppl attack you. Make sure to also upgrade defenses.

You don't get attacked by golems in high silver league & low gold league. Another thing, farmers HELP the trophy pushers bud. How do you think a th2 made it to crystal? By th sniping FARMERS... Although I like the idea of a th based matchmaking system it wouldn't work. For one thing a th8 could make it to the #1 player & no one but th8's would be able to attack him.

You seem to be unaware that there are loot penalties in clash of clans. Farmers only attack people at their townhall level or 1 lower. The only way 2 levels below is worth attacking is if it has all maxed collectors at 150,000 in each.

I don't get how thats even going to help and you're telling me to farm when I just made a wall of text on farming. But I'll try to get a screenie up, its not the best, but it does okay against people who's on the proper trophy range.

I'm aware of that, it doesn't seem to have helped the cause at all though from what I'm seeing.
And theres a gigantic diffrence bewtween a mid TH8 and TH7.

I think the vast difference between farming and pushers can be seen as a great ecosystem. I understand your point about how "cheap" it is for farmers to pick on lower level players but this is one of the major aspects of the game. It would be near impossible to manage 5 builders at one time while pushing. Pushing to high cups (2200+) takes a lot of elixir on top of being raid 5minutes after you get off. I have farmed pretty much constantly for the past 6 months and have recently finished th8. My opinion from this is obviously farming is important and beneficial. my only advice if you are getting attacked by higher level players drop trophies. There is no real point for a th1-7 to push for high cups because masters is unrealistic unless you snipe. If I was you I would consider farming at 1100-1200.

You say you wrote about farming but all I saw were tactics to defend your resources. Farming has nothing to do with townhall placement, base design or trophy count.

Farming(Def.)- The act of attacking in a manner that maximizes resources gained per hour.

Townhall 7 and 8 problems don't really matter, you stay at them for what 1-4 months? Maybe 5? Then spend years at 9 and 10.

I'm not planning on masters or anything, but I should be able to push as much as I can.

I see where you're coming from though, farming pretty much rocketed my through TH6. But managing all those builders is part of the challenge, and getting to the highest trophy. Its very possible to progress quickly without farming, its just that something that wasn't exactly legit is becoming a norm.

TH7 and 8 are peanuts compared to TH9 and 10.
Also you haven't really experienced high level gameplay, lol...
If you can't make it as TH7 in gold than why are TH7s in champion? :cool:
People upgrade their base so they can be better, win defenses, and push when they want to, and because it's fun.
So I wouldn't push, farm and upgrade your base:cool:

Can you stop telling people "welcome to the forums?" It's seriously a put down and it doesn't encourage people to continue participating. In this case it may not have been, but I've seen some of your posts over in a few other threads such as the game suggestions, and it can be extremely demotivating for new members of the forum :l

Anywho, I feel that everyones missing my point. With everyone telling me to farm, its pretty clear most people would agree its a superior way to play to tip the playing feild. While I do agree its inevitable in gaming, farming/trophy dropping is pretty fixable.

I don't see how welcoming someone new to the forums is a bad thing:confused:

Low town halls are aided by farmers having their TH's out, and also have the ludicrous benefit of the loot protection and bonus regardless of trophy level.

Push away, not only will you reach a league you have no right to be in, many will skip over your base as you have no loot on offer, and when you eventually get flattened you will lose very little resource.

TH7's and even TH6's in high crystal are annoying.

You seem to get confused that farmers and pushers played different games and should be separated. Well, they're not. For both cases.

sir, your not yet in your half way there. your th7 and you dont get troubles of the loot. you'll experience the loot problem when you reach th9 and you'll complain about farming blah blah blah.

so, enjoy staying there sir, appreciate the loot while its there! :D

btw, you provide a good loot for th8s thats why your getting hit by strong ones. try dropping trophies or if you dont like dropping, place your hall outside, in the corner, lonely, cold, starving. XD

Haha, the game has only been out a year and a half! But yeah you're in for a long haul with 9 and 10.

There's no right or wrong way to play, OP. You don't have to farm and nobody forces you to chase trophies either. Do your own thing... Farming came about from players wanting to max their base without spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars. It's the cheapest, quickest and easiest way to max your base. There's guys farming in sub200 to Champ league so you do whatever you want. I'd hate to see SC forcing people to play a certain way, where's the fun in that?

I see where you're coming from. When I was your level, I shared this exact opinion, but as the tides have shifted in my favour as I slowly started to become of higher and higher level player (now near maxed townhall 9) my opinion has completely flipped sides. You mentioned that you get attacked by larger troops only attainable my townhall 8 and up, why don't you attack townhalls below your level? That's what farming has come to, it's essentially just a simple food chain. You compared it to a shark going against a little fish, isn't that what nature is all about? Large animals attacking the small! It would be stupid for predators to hunt eachother, it's too risky for too little of a gain. Imagine a shark attacks a shark with a 50% chance of DYING. If the shark wins the fight and gets to eat the other shark, that's a massive, incredible gain. But if the shark took its time and hunted and killed 100 fish for the same amount of food, the shark reduces it's risk infinitely. You sir have something called a decent "moral standing". This is a disease that makes the victim delusional and far less efficient, as horrible and evil as it might sound, clash of clans is a game of survival and that requires regular dousche baggery. You have to be the bully if you want to win! That's about it, my rant is over, hopefully I influenced someone.

Farming should not be as popular as it is, but the game design makes it the most beneficial. I farm, but I believe the game shouldn't be played like this. A game more based on trophies is a better design. Until a new system/incentive is formed, farming it is.

There is no proper way to play. Every type of play style has its merits.

If a TH8 can realize his dream of being in Masters with the big dogs, why can't a TH10 smash a TH6 when he feels like it?

This is all true...in the end, you want to have the best base possible. Farming is such a broad term in this game, seeming as if you ONLY farm or you ONLY push. Well, everyone wants loot to upgrade their base so they can PUSH higher, and some people FARM while they PUSH.

So yes, unless you don't plan on spending much time on CoC, then farm on...or, find great loot raids-on...?

Once i get level 20 BK, i intend to celebrate by using BK, full healer, and 5 spells only to trash a TH6.

There are still some on my revenge list who sniped my TH. :)

Agree 100% lol.. Great analogy!

To OP.. It's really more of a cycle. U will progress faster on your base by attacking weaker opponents but the loot penalty also offers a certain level of protection as well for u. Short term trophies chasing can only get u so far in this game if u do not grow your base right from the start.

farming is the bread and butter for non gemmers, I only started farming at th8 also being against it up until I understood that it is very difficult to collect resources for the increasingly expensive upgrades we have to do. if it was not for the farmers I would not have reached master to collect my 1000 gems for my fourth builder and even during trophy pushing I keep my farming base so that I can attack the low level guy for his trophies when takes like 5-11 of mine.

OP i read your entire post and most (not all of the replies) so forgive me if this has already been said. I don't mean any offence by what i say but i will try to give you some perspective from a higher level town hall (i wouldnt raid th7 unless it was for cups). Whilst you are at TH7 you are still in the infancy of the game and have not experienced playing at a higher town hall level, where in my opinion farming becomes essential unless you want to pay to max your base. I'll give you some justification below:

At at a higher trophy count your build time becomes significantly longer. Say for example i use balloonions, GoWiWi or GoWiPe, not only does the cheapest and quickest option become around 40 minutes (not including spells) but it's still relatively expensive on elixir making the camp upgrades more difficult to achieve and reducing the amount i can gain in a playing session. This is coming from the perspective of a player who can only play when my kids are in bed, i cant play all day, neither would i want to so i can only raid a few times using this method.

Having the town hall inside means if i am successful in a defence i lose resources not once but maybe two or more times. At Th10 carrying capped storages means i could potentially lose 400k of each on a number of defences before gaining a shield. This means i stand to lose more than i can gain in a session.

At TH7 your may be able to manage running 5 builders playing at high trophy count as your upgrades are cheap, you will get steamrolled by a higher level town hall most of the time meaning you lose an insignificant amount of resources compared to what you can get back in a raid or two. At TH10 most upgrades are in excess of 6.4m which personally i cant raid in a session, or even a day due to work and life. Being forced to play at a higher trophy count would slow down, possibly halt my base progression unless i want to spend a fortune.

In my opinion basing a matchmaking system on level doesnt work, the big donators will be matched against stronger bases than possibly their own just due to an inflated experience level. The same way using town hall level would let a lower level town hall progress so far in cups that they are just about removed from matchmaking as there will be little to no town hall of that level in range to attack them.

I can just about assure you that whilst you may think its harsh being crushed by someone above you they take hardly any loot and you can easily gain this back, i do however understand it makes it difficult to push but just look at life, a baby doesnt run the country instead it's a mature (some of the time) fully grown human being.

When you advance i would like to bet that you become more inclined to farming.

I will preface my response with the fact that I did not read the entirety of the op or the thread. I think I understand the general theme though and wanted to comment.

This is a videogame. We all play it for different reasons and get different things out of it. I think we all would be better off if we didn't judge others for the way and reason that they play.

In line with the thread title, I believe the "proper way to play" is the way that you have fun playing. I personally farmed for a while without buying gems for a very long time. Then my base was almost maxed (aside from walls) and I decided to put these upgrades to use that I'd worked so hard for. So I started pushing trophies. I purchased gems etc. I did it because it was what seemed fun and enjoyable for me at the time.

I would encourage anyone else to do the same. Do what you enjoy at the time, and if someone has a problem with it, then fk them and the horse they rode in on. Likewise, putting others down for the manner in which they play a videogame is pretty sad. Much sadder than whatever you could try and paint them as.
