Because then everyone upgrades their walls when they log off, so there is no gold left to loot.
Still doesn't account for needing a builder when a builder doesn't build them :confused:

Because the builder has to paint the wall obviously.
They do build the walls, they have built so many that they are now able to for so instantly so people don't cry about it taking too much time.

What changed is that they have restricted loot since then, especially for higher TH lvl players. Without a builder being required, everyone would empty their storages right before logging off. In the current system, if you want to keep a builder free to do it, you can, but that is the penalty you pay.Quote:

when the game first came out you didn't need a builder to upgrade walls. they changed it in September last year saying it would add more gold to the game as people used all their excess gold on walls. More info here, and people below the info complaining about the change... lolQuote:
