Having both heroes upgrading was very easy up until they reached lvl 14-15, where the DE cost was too high for me to have them always both upgrading.
I'm a "pretty good" farmer, very casual compared to others, but I think I have a good strategy as I manage to get enough gold to max my TH9 while upgrading my lvl 9 walls, and my heroes are at a good lvl (BK going to lvl 20 and AQ lvl 15). Without focusing on DE farming, I still manage to get enough DE to have AT LEAST one heroe upgrading constantly past lvl 15 (before that I managed to have them both upgrading for the first few weeks of TH9).
So don't give yourself a headache: Just play and farm the way you want. But yes, you should use all your DE on heroe upgrades. You won't need DE troops if you're farming, but heroes are a very nice addition to your base.
No way, I got my heroes to lv10 and they can stay there for a while. I am anyway closing to the point where I will consider my base as finished, even if far from truly maxed.Quote:

Lately I've been using wizards because I feel the factory and hero 1 gem boosting makes huge raids more valuable, so I keep the same comp with 8 wizards instead of 32 archers... Works fine, even though it's somehow sad to use wizards on inactive bases x)
You can use minions for BAM while farming... BAM is the most efficient farming method... It's super cheap too.Quote:

My opinion on this is simple: I have NEVER encountered a base I could win/loot with BAM that I couldn't win/loot the very same way using BARCH + few WB.
BAM is, in my opinion, a flawed strategy: it is for the lazy players. Sure, it's efficient. But any BARCH +8 wb is 99% as efficient as BAM is.
DE being my most precious ressource (gold is not, gold is for walls which are an esthetic thing, we all know now with hogs, ballons and overpowered heroes that there is barely a difference between a base with full 7 or full 10 walls), I am totally against the use of BAM: it costs TONS of DE. That's why, good sir, I don't use BAM and will never use BAM any more.
I want to know what balloonian EVER came close to averaging 10,000 DE per hour??? A minion heavy balloon army takes 40 minutes to train. That's 2/3 of an hour. If you want to earn 10,000 DE per hour with an army that takes 40 minutes to train you'd need to average 6,600 DE per raid. And if you want only net (minus 600-700 DE per raid for minions) you'd need to haul in north of 7,000 DE per raid. No one does that....Quote:

If you de farm in upper crystal or masters, you will see consistent gold gain. Enough for defenses maybe not for walls.
On the topic of constantly upgrading, only the most hardcore will after the mid 20s in levels.
It all has to do with trophy range. The higher you go the more DE you find with the gold. You have to find a sweet spot your base can survive in though. Mine is max TH10 so it doesn't matter so much but if you have weaker defence try around 2k or just under.
Mine are constantly upgrading (both going to lvl 35 as we speak). Some guys in my clan like to upgrade the AQ first but I just do em both at the same time. By the time one has finished upgrading I have enough DE for the next update although it's getting a little tricky now with them costing so much... my next AQ upgrade costs 180k DE! Phwoarrr

My clanmate, Spechi, he barches in Master (or even champions) and makes tons of DE. He just shared now his latest attack log. 3 attacks in 20 minutes, 11200 DE. I am jealous of him. I tried to barch but not much success. Apparently not everyone can master the barch (pun intended).
By farming on 1500-2000 u can get 1k in no problem
