I like to always keep a builder free if i can. If I ever get too high in loot on defense for the attacker to steal, i upgrade something. But try to always keep one free for walls and obstacles.
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Usually I would keep one free at breaks such as Spring breaks or summer vacation because that's when I can farm like crazy. To prevent overflowing gold, just keep one free. I would try to make all busy if you have stuff to do, and can't play as much.

It depends when the next builder finishes how much gold I have and how long I can play.
Any holidays I keep one free otherwise I build constantly with all 5 builders if I can
I always keep one builder open not necessarily because of walls but because I'm OCD about my obstacles. :rolleyes:
I always have a free builder when farming either to clear obstacles or upgrade walls. When trophy pushing all builders are in use. Clash on!
I farm full storages 3 hours before an upgrade finishes, then when builder frees I use as much possible on walls, but save what I need for my next upgrade.
I keep them busy and blow all my gold into defense upgrades :)

Unless it's a BIG upgrade that I've been saving up for for DAYS and WEEKS, I usually keep one builder free. I'm about to have 0 free builders pending an upgrade to golems.
Im having a problem making my mind up on this right now. Do I start my last defensive building or do I keep that builder for walls since I'm farming around 5 million gold per day. No other builder available for over 5 days
I would leave one builder free if 75% my defences have already maxed. It is impossible to leave a builder free when come to newly upgraded TH as there are many defences/ buildings not built or upgraded.
Depends on my time, upgrades, plans. I usually get them occupied with upgrades. But if it is like in your case, that others are busy for that long, I would probably leave this one free for say 3 days, and do some walls, and then put that builder on some upgrade after 3 days, so I would collect some gold to be ready like day before the other builder is free. Depends what is happening. I'm leaving one free as I won't have another for 4 more days due to teslas. If I'm running shorter upgrades I just wait for one to finish.
I had a similar choice not long ago, started the upgrade then regretted it, because the loot suddenly turned fantastic and I was raking it in, 7million in one day (twice my normal amount). I had overflowing gold stores for 2 days till the next builder freed up. Bloody typical 😤Quote:

Right now my upgrades cost so much I have a builder free for no good reason. I'm not active enough to do those upgrades and walls.
I have 246 skulls and once I reach 250 I will let the walls rest for a while and keep all 5 builders busy if I can.
i keep one free until there is enough time til the next builder to fill my storages. depending on my schedule I'll start an upgrade 1-1.5 days before the next builder frees up. best of both worlds.
I keep my builders going 24/7, only upgrading walls if I have a surplus of gold.
I used to as a th6 through most of th9. Now as a th10, my cheapest upgrade is 6.5million gold, so I can't afford to dump gold in walls or traps. I am only averaging about 150k gold per raid, not accounting for loot bonus or next costs.

I've got 4 builders. Since I've started the game a builder has rarely rested for more then 2h in a row, I upgrade like crazzy :P

I have kept a builder free for walls since i got to th9 last June...had three months of builders on vacation whilst farming lavas (they built a nice tiki bar for themselves on the beach for their long vacation! :)) and am now still keeping one since i got to th10 a month or so ago... In my opinion, it just gives you something to raid for in between big and long upgrades.. And still the defences are done way before the walls...

I keep all my builders busy. Max my storages when it's around time 1 of them finishes building and do my walls. Maybe do a couple more depending if I have time then build again. Rotate between builders. You should keep every builder on different build times. 1d, 2d, 3d.... Etc if you can. It's the most efficient way to do your walls and build at the same time.
I would never leave a builder free. It's a waste. What I do is stagger my builds so I never have more than 2 days where I don't have a builder free up to dump some cash into walls. If I fill my gold storage I just go farm DE. Walls are a great status symbol but really with hogs and loons they really aren't all that useful until you get way up in cups.
Now I am doing that, I have 4 builders working and 1 sleeping. although I didn't spend on walls because some upgrades finishes tomorrow, so I will upgrade more buildings then do upgrade walls when I can.
If you're a th8 and below it is easy to keep the timing right to both upgrade walls and upgrade buildings simultaneously.
At th9 when upgrade times creep up to 10-14 days and lvl10 walls costing 3 mil each, you will inevitably run into either overflowing gold or sleeping builders.

my builders are always busy, when one frees i dump the extra gold in walls
i am only th7 now tho, wich makes it easier to time the upgrades so that there is a free builder every day, max no free builder time of 2 days
Once my teslas are maxed in 2 weeks, I will always have one builder free.
