All your eggs in one basket - pros of large cores at TH6-7
One piece of advice I've seen in most base design threads is not to have a large-ish core where most or all of your storages are. The advice makes sense for obvious reasons in that if your storages are spread around, it becomes much harder to lose all your loot in one go.
However, at TH6 or 7 (and possibly at TH8 - not there yet), I've found that the lack of walls leave base designers with two choices, compartmentalize storages at the expense of a stronger outer design, or make the core harder to breach at the expense of not having it compartmentalized.
Following conventional advice, the first choice is the obvious choice so you don't lose all your loot in one attack, but my thinking is that with a compartmentalized base, it's easier to get to at least a couple of storages yet not lose 40% of your base, leaving you open for repeat attacks where you can lose even more loot. With a large core and a stronger outer design, attackers often won't breach the core. If they do, however, they are almost certain to have hit the 40% threshold, meaning that you will gain a valuable shield, ultimately limiting your losses to the one raid.
Overall it seems to me the smarter approach is to lose big but less often, and if you do lose loot, at least get a shield out of the deal. So, is my logic sound or am I totally off base?
