Anyone had any luck with a maze design???
I would have thought that if there were open routes for the land troops to follow, then they might just do that. Then it turns into more of a tower defense game....

Ih ave not done this myself, but I have attacked a few that have attempted this. To counter i just send in a stack of wallbombers at a nice spot and let them make me a direct path to the center to get to the gold.
Maze works wonders against barbs, Giants and goblins. But Archers simply shoot over the walls!

How well do the NPC mazes in the solo game work against you?
Those solo games are not worth it, I only play if I got spare elix to waste, else they require more troops as their def are ridiculously high. For ex for 4000G n 40000E there was 2 mortars lvl 3 or 4, n 4 cannons, lvl Only God Knows, but they were huge n golden colour.
Have to agree the return on higher lv solo aren't worth it. Completing them you get a pittance in gems. Again not worth the investment. To be honest sometimes I dump my leftover troops in to see if I can get any resources instead of losing them to players. It might be useful to advance through npc missions if you could repeat and there were a couple honeypots higher up but the nixed that so essentially made a segment of the game useless. Shame.
not a maze persay, but i've seen walls where there is an outer wall and inner wall. the contents in the inner wall are out of reach of archers. so the AI for archers ends up circling inside the outer and inner wall while mortars and archer towers pick them off. quite ingenious but i didn't think to take a snapshot... i was just amazed i got creamed.
Whats a maze design? Do you mean a funneling base?
I did see a very ingenious spiral maze design once, there were no defences just inside the obvious place to drop wallbreakers and a hidden tesla popped up to one side to lure all my giants to one side into the spiral rather than going towards the core. I must admit that attack failed miserably.
Something like this?

Here's the results of my attack:

LoL... I did consider attacking the core, but there wasn't enough loot there to bother.
I think mazes, funnels etc really only work if you don't throw a few wall breakers at them, assuming you have a good understanding of exactly how WB's behave (e.g. see Flammy's guide for a start). From my experience, you see a lot of "trap" type bases around Gold 2, Gold 1, then in Crystal they are pretty much gone, which means they are not good enough to survive more experienced and/or determined raiders, and/or maxed out troops (not everyone in Crystal knows how to attack well, but they do tend to have 220-240 maxed out troops).
Also, if you are struggling with the mazes etc in the solo maps... just use flying troops! I looted all but the last two using just 5-40 minions... converted a bit of DE into a heap of gold and elixer. The last two maps were a bit tough for 40 minions, so I added up to 6 dragons, and got all except 260k gold from the last map on my first go...
