SC has changed a few upgrade times over the course of 1.5 years, but only a few (WT and AT, can't recall levels). I'm sure they will cut down on some more upgrade times as the game progresses, and equally sure that they are aware that some people might appreciate it.
As for now, I think most upgrade times are OK. Seeing you're TH8, your upgrade times are still pretty short, bar the TH upgrade and Teslas - but that's just how the game goes. The further you progress, the longer the upgrade times become and more expensive as well. What's interesting (and quite lame) is that higher THs have a more difficult time collecting resources due to loot penalty and more difficult bases to tackle, and higher THs don't get any new collector levels either. But that's a different issue - upgrade and building times are fine.
