Don't care about loot, but for the love of god, nerf hog riders!

I am a th level 8 with maxed splash defences and pretty high other stuff, I spent hours reading threads and studying bases in order to create my own trophy push base which works very well against most troops even level 6 giants, but as soon as I stop farming and venture towards mid gold 1 range I get 100 percented every time I log off by armies comprising of nothing but hog riders and a few archers for clean up. I find it ridiculous that such a brainless attack can be so effective. I spend time upping defences and saving resources and someone can just come along, drop 25 hogs and a couple of healing spells and demolish my base with no effort whatsoever. If hogs must be so overpowered then at least give lower th's some sort of defence against them so they are not an automatic win button. I thought this game was a strategy game, not a one troop wins all game. At least Balloonions takes a bit of brain power to use, but any moron can destroy a base with hogs. This is really spoiling the experience for me in this game, what is the point in all the hours spent upgrading defences if they have absolutely no affect on hogs at all.

I'm sorry this happened, but pushing is not meant to be easy. Even a maxed TH 8 base wasn't mean to go much further that Crystal 2. It can be done, but your social life would die all together :)

Your point would have been valid 4 months ago.

Maybe have a look at some anti hog bases.

Hogs do not need any further nerfing.

just suck it up, you are in a lower TH level. you will get demolished regardless. So what if they nerf hoggies again just for your sake? you'll get owned by gowiwi... are you going to complain that gowiwi should be nerfed too? Giant Healer can take out your base too.. lets nerf Giant healer too do that Mendicus can stop crying like a baby.

best defense against hogs at th8 is to put your th outside and hope to get a shield by some sniper. Even if you are pushing trophies I think it's better to get 1 stared then 3 stared!

alternatives are either giant bombs (although you'd need 2 in a row, especially against higher level hogs), but they can be quite effective especially if the attacker is not ready with an healing spell.. or rush th10 and get multi inferno ;)

Im not in crystal 2 Im in gold 1. Been to masters 3 when pushing so I know its hard which I don't mind. It's the fact that I can defend against most troops to a reasonable standard, but anyone spamming hogs cant be defended against that annoys me.

Anti hog at th8? Only time I see hogs defended successfully is by inferno towers.

I think they are a bit OP too, but at least they became more expensive last update. My life got a lot easier since I became TH9 with two Xbows and the Queen.

Am I the only one complaining about hogs? No.

Gowiwi is expensive and time consuming and is somewhat tactical so I don't mind being done by that at all. Giant healer I defend against to a certain extend and they are usually slow and often only get one star.

Now let's compare hogs to those other high level attacks. They are fast, they can jump walls, they have great dps, they cost 50 de each, take up only 5 housing space, take 5 minutes to build and can just be dumped on a base in a hoard without any thinking at all.

Yes please for the love of god supercell , nerf everything so th8s don't get 3 starred by higher level people using expensive troops ... And whilst you have the nerf gun out , please nerf the villagers too they are too damn happy sometimes and Its upsetting my builders :confused:

Funniest defence replay ive ever seen was posted by one of the th7 players in my clan who designed his base with a couple of traps to counter hogs. On this particular defence the attacker dropped 30ish hogs at the bottom of the base hoping to sweep up and destroy the easy th7 base, the hogs went straight for the nearest archer tower which had 2 teslas next to it to keep the hogs interested for a few seconds longer plus two big bombs in front of the archer tower these both exploded killing pretty much all the hogs. To save face the attacker destroyed the town hall which had been left out for the snipe with his cc troops leaving the rest of us in the clan to laugh at his bad luck/incompetence!

Hardly 1 type of troop, a hog army may consist of archer, barb, wizard or witch (at high level). And yes, a 1500 DE+ and 100kE+ army is expensive.

I'm yet to find a th8 anti hog base, so I guess I am stuck. I'll keep searching though.

There's no effective th8 antihog base, there're not enough building to keep the hogs running around your base. Even if you can manage to do that (which isn't hard), the core defense aren't enough to mow them down before they get to the center of the base.

What's better than anti-hog bases?

Just make sure you show less than 1k de, unlikely that hog armies would ravage your base then.

You can take down a max th9 with 30 hogs and 4 heal spells plus a bunch of barbs and archers: an army that costs 1950DE and 100kE. It SHOULD be able to take down that kind of base.

Oh, yes, I'd agree with that, but only against regular base. Have to try to make your clan castle very difficult to lure and snug some wizards in? Those guys can do wonders.


With that being said, it takes lots of skill to use hogs in higher league against th10. I can say that hogs is both noob friendly and decently challenging army to master.

If hogs are not overpowered compared to gowiwi etc then please explain to me why I have never been attacked by gowiwi and very rarely gowipe, but I get attacked by hogs every other attack.

Believe it or not, your range is still a farming range. Th9 and 10 farming th9 and lower at that range, hogs is one of the most efficient armies to 100% a fully maxed th9. At higher range, due to an increase in th10, hogs attacks decrease and are replaced by GoWiWi.

Its probably to do with build time a hog army can be cooked in half an hour if you have your spell factory boosted; where as gowiwi and gowipe take between an hour and a half to two and a half hours unless you gem!

TH8 complaining about hogs, asking for yet another hogs nerf.

First piece of advise, just leave TH out. TH8 has not chances to win defenses, no matter what army, so you may as well hope for a TH snipe and save your resources.

2. Why dont you try to hog yourself. If it is so easy, why dont you do it.


I went to 2530 cups following the advise above, not even pushing. I mean, I was trying to keep my DE storage full (my other two were already full all the time), while waiting for TH to finish. Could have reached master, but TH was finishing and had to go back to farming.

Hogs are expensive to max and expensive to train for each battle. in addition, they need 4 heal spells (2-3 on TH8 maybe), which means you either need to gem your spell factory, or raid only once every 2 hours. They should be able to flatten a TH8.

This and add to the fact that GoWiWi is totally unnecessary at that range, most of base down that range are th9 and weak th10. What's the point for that kind of army anyway.

Posted a pic of my base a few posts back, any advice would be welcome to make it more hog proof if possible.

ps: my defences are upgraded now. This is a pic from about a week ago.

Mendicus, I am afraid there is no anti-hog layouts for TH8. Seriously, try leaving TH outside and dont log off in between raiding sessions.

If we nerfed every troop that could 3 star your base there wouldnt be any left. Higher TH beat up on lower

I suggest you should make a better use of your teslas, put it outside the radius of your clan castle to slow down the hogs that try to lure your CC troops.

As for the antihog element, you need a total revamp. The base should have isolated innering (the core) and outer ring of defense, separated by a ring of non-defense building. The core should have your townhall, your clan castle, and your mortars (and either archer tower or airdefense as you see fit). There should not be any path of defense building that may lead to your core.

However, consider the fact that you're a th8, i'd say deal with it or upgrade to th9 to get more buildings/walls for an acceptable anti-hog.

Yes, there's a different between a farmer that goes for your resources and a pusher that tries to 100% your base. And FYI, giant/healer isn't very popular at higher range (Crystal-masterI), it's hogs.

I know it's not tempest, I tried tempest and didnt like it so i wanted to design my own.

Spring traps are spread around, but you are right about the hogs taking the bottom at or cannon and then moving onto the wt, not always though, but. I find the current set up there is good against giants.

yeah i know that , even a farmer would snipe exposed TH to ensure 1 star , and a farmer would go for the resources .... not for the core that offers less than 1.5k DE and 100k gold , i didn't imply i won hog attacks , just most of those without snipes , im sure i can win good amount of hog attacks , if they set springs and giant bombs :rolleyes:

Problem is I get attacked by hogs from the sides, but then giants attack me nearly always from the bottom, sometimes the top, so its hard to guard against both. I have no problems at all with other troops unless its a th10 with a crazy army.

Hogs have been nerfed too much already, plus they raised the price of them. So I am 1000% percent against any further changes to hogs, unless they want to un-nerf them :). For higher level players you need the hogs, and other troops at full capacity in order to progress in the game. There are several anti hog bases out there on the forums.

Also one day you will get there and your base will be TH10 and you will be like "don't you dare nerf my troops" but for now it can be frustrating. Hang in there are clash on!

There is no need to Nerf the hogs. With a proper layout and cc troops, you can easily win defenses against them.

whining like this already got the hogs nerfed and made more costly. Seriously, please just stop your individual experience of unhappiness spoiling the fun for hundreds of thousands of other players.

i have spent an age getting to level 10, overcoming regular bashing at your range of levels to be able to use hogs, as the game was designed to have them. If you really don't like their attacks, get to TH10, build discos and your problems are solved. Sticking at TH8 to avoid loot penalties makes you a target, so deal with it. We get loot penalties, you get trashed. C'est la vie.

I can 2-star any Th8 bases with 1 rage (maybe a lightening if you got some Th10 style troops in that CC) and 16 balloons with minions directly behind and in the process strip you of everything you have (honestly a 3-star is quite possible but I tend to save my rages additional raids)

I am not trying to discount your experience. Level 5 hogs can tear apart a Th8 without hardly any effort, but with the cost increase they are very unlikely to recoup their DE from you (at least in my experience most Th8 aren't around walking with DE sitting at the storage cap). Also as a Th9 player who spent allot of time in Crystal I, they need the power to be useful.

Hogs are hard to balance because 30+ hogs with 4 healing spells is a tough situation, but take away those healing spells and hogs die pretty quick. I consider them a high risk/high reward troop (verses your own TH level or higher)

EDIT: My only tip is to try and use giant bombs at max levels in a pair with some regular bombs so that a herd of hogs would explode upon activation of said trap. This is difficult to set up as the traps pretty much have to detonate all at the same time and you're likely to only be able to set up 1 such area in your base - but you can laugh your butt off when a hogger thinking he is looking at an easy win ends up with 25-33% and pieces of bacon all over.

Here is a few trap and bomb ideas:

Max all bombs.
Have all traps and bombs inside.
Use two giant bombs together.
Of cause have them close to a defence, why not something you upgrade that doesn't matter anyway?
Don't spread them out to much, I suggest about three traps together. It's fun to see pigs fly.

as TH9, i lose my fair share of raids too to balloonions, to Gowiwi, to Hogs.. but never 100%.. it's part of the game.

The game is catered to have high THs bullying lower THs.. if you want to stop hogs forever, go TH10 and throw disco infernos up. other than that.. Deal with it.. or get to TH9 and build a decent anti-hog base.

You guys don't get it at all. He thinks it doesn't seem right that hogs require no skill. He'd be fine if they could still three star a TH8 as long as it required a brain not just a finger.

Hogs require skill for TH9+.. heck even some TH8s are hard to hog with proper trap placement.

if he was a TH7.. sure.. spamming 30 hogs can flatten him with no spells.. but is it economincal to hog th7s? no.

but to complain that hogs are of no skill is kinda dumb... try pushing to Master 2/1 with Hogs and you will see it's not about "spamming" hogs.

Besides.. for all we know.. he is probably leaving max gold and elixir out.. thats 200+/200+ for TH9s.. no wonder he is being attacked.. you don't want to be attacked? Spend the loot.

Higher Town Halls can three start a TH 8 base with multiple army compositions. Hogs, balloonion, dragloonion, giant/healer etc. I experienced the same thing at TH 8, even though my base was completely maxed with skullwalls I had no chance. Now I am a maxed out TH 9 with all level 9 walls and some level 10 walls and I still get three starred (not as often as at TH 8, but I still do). You just have to be patient and work your way up and in the end, you will be the one three starring TH 8 bases.

Good post! I was thinking who would throw a hog army at a th8 in gold league. Seems a waste. The key is just to be gold poor when pushing up. Especially for a th8.

If it makes you feel better, as a th10 with both my infernos upgrading i get hogged regularly. I got 2 starred yesterday, but I had a golem in cc. But normally they just get one gold and one elixir store. So they are a strong troop, but those attacks would have failed miserably with both lvl3 infernos up. So it is hard to balance them.

You don't need skill to take out a th8 (nor a regular th9) with hogs, as long as you lure CC and heroes you're good to go.

However, it takes skill to destroy a good th9 antihog base, a decent skill to take out a regular th10 with multi inferno, and lots of skill to take out a th10 antihog with multi inferno.

I get what you are talking about, its just what is the solution? If they are nerfed they become useless in higher level play. Add a defense to th8, well then th8 has an unfair advantage vs th7.

Add more traps? This is a possibility but I would not recommend it being spring traps, this would hurt giants too much. SC already made this mistake with the multi-target infernos. In there efforts to reign in hogs, they ended up hurting some strategies that already had a hard time competing (giant/healer - basically the healer is a waste of space now).

Letting Th8 have 4 big bombs and having them have the chance to upgrade to Th9 levels, might help give Th8 options. However, this wouldn't help most players as the value of that rearm cost is questionable until you reach late Th9 (in my opinion)




I do feel for you. I was late Th8 before the giant buffing and hog fiasco. Back then you could reliably defend yourself. Th8 is now just another stepping stone before you can get to a level where you can count on your defenses.

Finding it hard to make the cc none lurable with the ammount of walls i have but I'll have a good go. Had some useful tips in this thread which I will take on board and try out.

For much better results in your defence, maybe mix some balloons with wizards

I know. To me it seems fair that a TH9 or 10 can easily three star a TH8 with an expensive army, but if it was true that you can spam against TH9s and 10s, that wouldn't seem right.

I agree, that used to be the case, but luckily (or not) with the multi inferno, antihog design (double bomb etc) and multiple nerf + increase cost, hog spamming isn't very dominant anymore (at least against higher townhall)

Since the last update made them more expensive, I've not seen nearly as many hog armies in Gold 2-Crystal 2....

Then again, I'm guessing they're passing me by with almost no gold available, and less than 2k de most of the time...

Why not put your TH outside the walls and get some free shields rather than being demolished?.

I'm also TH8, level 77 with nearly maxed defenses for what its worth.

They have been nerfed THREE times. That's enough I guess. Anyways the reason why people think they are OP is because they jump over walls and a bit powerful too.

Im a th 8 also with almost max defences. Max hogs would usually beat my base but my funneling and spring traps usually take out like half of them:cool:

Here is an "anti-hog" base that I made and am currently using with my alt: Ron Swanson in Mudgerian Army. It's a TH 8 version of the base I'm currently using with my main. It served me well through crystal 3 and began to crack around crystal 2. As many have already correctly stated, there are no really amazing anti-hog bases for TH 8. If someone wants to crush you, you're going to get crushed.

With the exposed AD's, it does ok against giant/healer and not very well against air attacks (not that I see a lot of them.) The problem with a base made to defend a certain army is that it makes you weaker to others. It's a balancing act.

The good thing about this base is the spring traps and bombs in the corners work really well in slowing hogs down. Most of the hogs will follow a path around the perimeter. Good attackers will break that path before deploying all their hogs and there's nothing you can do to stop that. Hog spammers run into problems, though.

Try it out if you want. You will still probably lose to hogs but you might lose a little less.
