DE farming tactics - How to get Barb King L3 at TH7.

I have been lurking for a while on these forums and keep hearing threads of people complaining about their precious DE getting raided by lightning strikes.

This post isn't another moan at why DE Lighting sucks... blah blah blah...

Deal with it. :cool:

For those players at TH7 looking to take advantage of the Lightning strike feature and how to get lots more DE, here's some tips to get and upgrade your Heros quickly and effectively.

A little background, I'm a TH7 player and have to date raided over 40K worth of DE based on my "Heroic Heist" achievement and it's helped me to upgrade my King Barb to L3. I don't ever buy gems, so my progress to date is purely on the back of natural progress. And yes, I have a day job, so my strategy isn't based on being online 24/7.

1. Plan your DE push.
Don't take your sweet time when collecting DE. The longer it takes for you to hit your target, the more chances others have to steal it back.

Make sure you have good Gold and Elx reserves to maintain your upgrades and build troops. It takes around 3 days for me to collect enough DE for a upgrade.

2. Pick your battles.
At TH7, you have a few distinct advantages. The most important advantage is that TH9 raids against you is penalised by 50%. This means that for most TH9 people, revenge against TH7 isn't worth it. It's the same reason you don't raid TH5.

So only target TH9 people when using lightning strikes and try to avoid targeting TH8, they can easily hit back and get 500+.

Key part of getting the DE is keeping it, by only targeting TH9 bases, you lower the risk of damaging revenge attacks.

To get King Barb to L3, you will need 37,500 worth of DE. I've collected 40,000 which means along the way, I've only lost 2,500 (a tiny amount) from others attacking, picking the right targets when raiding is how to keep your losses down.

3. Know your range.
Anything over 1,400 cups and you start seeing the 1000+ DE stores.

Staying above 1,400 cups when you lose trophies each time you use lightning is important, again: NEVER attack TH7/8 bases. If they see you have DE in their revenge list, guess what's going to happen when you go offline?

Raiding TH6 bases means they hardly ever revenge you. And if they do, it's not a big deal because they can't steal DE! (or have enough firepower to win, so helps you get more trophies).

You should have around 180-200 troops which can guarantee a win against TH6 bases. Use that to your advantage. There is still plenty TH6 players around the 1,400 mark which you can farm some good gold and very importantly keep you above the 1,400 cups range.

Aim for the TH9 targets, but avoid any with L4-5 stores. 3 lightning strikes only gets around 50% of the DE because you can't fully destroy it.

4. Free shields.
Needless to say, free shields is very welcome when collecting DE. You have a 3 hour wait between lightning strikes so a free shield helps keep your base attack free while the lightning is made, sleeping, working etc.

Put your TH out and make it really really easy to raid.

5. Revenge is sweet.
Use your list of people who's attacked you as a final push to get DE. They can never attack back since it's your revenge, and you can pick the battles.

So this is my tactics as a TH7 DE lightning farmer.... to all the DE lightning haters, thx for all the DE, for rants please form a orderly line below.

I'm TH8, so I'm safe by your methods. Whilst many will hate it, I guess 'fair play' is in order. You've done well.

Wow. I regularly get attacked by TH9 or high levels TH8 that I can't revenge because I'm still a TH7. But at least this is a way to get back at them, thanks :)

Obviously we won't like to be on the receiving end of it. But that doesn't mean we should stop doing that.

Without being at TH9, I can't say for sure but I have a few ideas which will help those who have well developed TH9 bases. (If you are one of those TH9's who upgraded too soon, well, go read all the other posts about why you suck :p)

1. You should upgrade to high DE storage levels. - As mentioned in my post, 3x lightning strikes on high level storage only does 50% damage to the storage. So it doesn't win the raider as much as advertised. I use 4* lightning strikes and I prefer hitting DE stores at L2/3 for max impact.

2. Don't religiously collect the collectors. By distributing the DE across your base, someone has to actually attack...

3. Don't attack TH7 people with DE stores. A large chunk of my DE raids comes from revenging against TH9 attacks.

Pick someone your own size. At TH9 you will have access to L6 troops which means you should be able to win against other TH9 bases through raids, which will get you DE, cups and resources. That is if you don't suck.

4. Don't suck. (Did I mention that already?) Upgrade your TH8 before going to TH9. So many people at TH9 complain can't farm etc. My clan has lots of TH9 players and understand good bases start with good foundations, none have any trouble with farming / raiding for DE.

5. Final thought is to drop to under 200 cups. Apparently there's a pot of gold there laced with dark sauce. Not ideal with 4* troops but easy money for 5*+ army.

pretty amazing how you know that i suck even without seeing my village but hey you know it all right. About attacking th7 are you serious? Do you really think i'd go for nonprofitable battles? Hmmm just think about it (i never even revenge th7 cause its pointless, i always wait for th8 and then boom...thats revenge :))

The pot of gold is true but being ideal with only 5* army is a lie. I farm with 4* troops over there and I 3 star most TH9 people I encounter because they are mostly premature.

EDIT: Also being a TH7, I enjoy raiding TH9 people without any penalty and gaining 300k of both resources per win with only a handful of Wizards, Giants, Healer, and 1 Rage Spell.

This is quite a good guide in my opinion! This would definitely help me if I was TH 7. :)

Of the last 10 attackers on my base, only one doesn't have DE storage so I won't even need to waste time looking for targets and they won't be able to revenge me. Brilliant :D

I said i want to know your opinion once you get th9...you obviously dont have it yet so you have no clue how hard it is to save up for Archer Queen.

Yes you are a bit self conscious, thats right.

I didn't know it was that hard to use a spell to hit a storage, that you need a guide to doing it. 😕

You will see the annoyance in the tactic when you are saving more DE then just 15k, so good luck for the 2 months it takes you to get a queen.

What is an acceptable return of DE for spending the 66,000 gold?

I thought it had already been agreed that TH 7 or 8 is simply better at collecting resources than TH9? This thread is a bit unnecessary, I mean, all the info is right, but if you needed that kind of strategic help, you need help, period.

The bit missing is how much jolly fun being a TH 9 is, when you are set up right. Two xbows? tick. Archer Queen? tick. Extra walls? tick. Every TH7 base I see looks a bit rubbish with so few walls available. Wow, does CoC really need another grid village? Apparently it does...

A typical raid for me nets easily 200K gold, and I use 20 min worth of troops to raid (ie, it takes around 20mins to regen my army). So in a hour of raiding I typically get 600K which basically makes the cost of 3 spells pocket change.

There isn't really a "return" because the cost of spells is insignificant. The only factor to consider is the faster you can reach your target, the less time you give others to raid you.

I like this guy and his exploits (although it is ridiculous that Supercell designed it this way), but this one point is ridiculous. If you collect your drill, you can only lose max 5%. If you don't and you get raided, you can lose 50% of it.

Also don't put gold storages near DE storage, or they get some gold along with the DE.

So th9 is penalised for attacking th7", but th7 gets bonus for "attacking" th9?

Sounds reasonable.

According to the Wiki, TH7 players get a 25% loot bonus for attacking TH9 ones, further sweetening / souring the pot, depending on which end of the attack you're at. Personally, I used the same strategy as the OP to get my level 3 BK, except with lower standards -- gold is SO easy to get at this level, I'd happily throw it away just to get a crack at some DE. Need my fix. *starts shaking*

For TH7 players: lightning-based DE robbery is a way to fight back against a superior force. Are we supposed to just bend over and take it as bully TH9s run through our villages and steal our resources? No, I don't think so.

For TH9 players: you have no excuse for not making DE storage upgrade a priority. You're saving for level 6 troops? That's fine... clearly you value your purple elixir more than your black one. Want to minimize lightning spell revenges? Check out your potential victim's spell factory before attacking.

I'm TH8 level 65 my Game Center is Jasperstoj. Add me and join my clan: Dragon Hunters. For all you TH8/9's sooking about loosing dark elixir to lightings UPGRADE YOUR STORAGES. Currently I have a level 3 barb king, level 2 drill and 13,000 dark elixir. It only took me 3 days to get it. Purely off 3 level 4 lightings at the 1400-1600 trophy range. For all you TH7's go to 1500 trophies use your lightings. If a level 60+ attacked you and stole 300 dark elexir revenge him and steal 1000. This morning I revenged a level 70 with 3 lightings and stole 788 dark elixir. Hope this helped and add me on Game Center :)

exactly how i got to lvl2 back then haha.. and the bullies became whiners..

as an aside, why cant we use the heros when they are upgrading?!? isn't the re-gen period bad enuf that we cant fully use what we 'paid' for?

before I upgraded my TH to level 8, my King is level 5 and DE storage is 20kAttachment 3688

I'm only just waiting for my TH6 upgrade to finish but thanks for the info. Many of my clan-mates talk about how hard it is to upgrade their Barb King so I''l point em to this thread and I'll keep this in mind for when I eventually get to TH7.
