I would like very high range but I also would like an air defensive building as well
This isnt a question with a straight forward question, it depends alot on how your base is, how your air defense is and so on.
But for me I got 2 xbows at "air & ground" and 1 at "ground", also got all my air defense at lvl 7.
Post a screenshot of your base and i'm sure it will be easier to reply
Put all of them to "Air & Ground" as baloonian users search for bases with "Ground Only" X-Bows.
