Five spells in every defense at Masters 2 - Maxed TH9

I've been farming a bit in Masters 2 over the past few weeks and am amazed that every single attack has used five spells and high heroes against me. As a measly Th9 I just can't figure out why those spells are needed. In every single defense it didn't help them get more stars. I typically get one to two starred by good raiders due to my th being partially exposed but five spells and heroes expended for two stars on a th9? I don't understand it. I myself loon with 1-2 spells per raid and find it really easy to one star most bases and I'm farming! My top goal is loot not trophies. Is this commonplace up here?

Well, I'm in Master3 using a TH9...and yes, I do use all 4 spells during a raid....its kinda hard to be losing 30 trophies for that 50% just because I didn't use enough Spells. Anyway, its no big deal, anyone in Masters will say they have enough elixirs. Some have capable skills and troops to be using 2~3 spells, some are not so confident or having less troop and skill to confidently get a 50%. So they use whatever means necessary to win
