It's their creation.
People name their base because it is their creation. It can also be referenced to easier and adds creativity IMO.
Why do people name stuff?
Why do you have a name? Why does your forum user have a nickname?
Easier to refer to, i guess.

The same reason anything has a name, for identification.
If someone says they like the base they are using, someone asks which base it is, are you going to try to describe how the base looks, or will you just say the name of the base? It's common sense.
Identification. So the base has something to be called. Just like why humans have names. What would be easier to call someone by? Dave, or Human being #46329871-B2-76?
Why do clans have names? Never mind, I think the point has been made clear - there's enough previous posts before me. xD
