It's their creation.
People name their base because it is their creation. It can also be referenced to easier and adds creativity IMO.
Why do people name stuff?
Why do you have a name? Why does your forum user have a nickname?
Easier to refer to, i guess.
Original question is a close equivalent to: "Why do people use language?"
The same reason anything has a name, for identification.
If someone says they like the base they are using, someone asks which base it is, are you going to try to describe how the base looks, or will you just say the name of the base? It's common sense.
