You could actually get a good amount of resources with some giants to tank damage from defence towers and then drop archers or wizards behind so that they do not die right away. It might be annoying to break through walls though if you don't use wallbreakers. If you decide to use archers, just remember that mortars can kill them easily when they're grouped together.
It really depends on what you want though (trophies or resources).
If you want to get resources, you would probably want to use cheaper troops that are quick to make, for instance, I just use archers and barbarians and can get 100-300k gold/elixir usually, unless I'm lucky and find a high loot base. 2 barracks for barbs and 2 for archers.
If you train wizards or anything with a longer training time (healers, balloons), you would need to find bases with high amounts of resources or it would be a waste of resources and time to train them.
