Profanity Filter Oddities? Post them here!

Hey Guys,

In the latest version of Hay Day we introduced the chat, and with that, a bit more strict profanity filter. Since Hay Day supports several languages and each language has its own bad words which again can be ok in some other languages, there are cases where the filter doesn't work as intended.

Could you please post in this thread normal words you have stumbled across which have become stars? :) For example, somehow is **mehow and even "so" is **. Words like that. Please don't post words which you know are blacklisted for a good reason. :)

Thanks guys! We will try to improve the profanity filter already tomorrow and we'd like to hear what kind of odd profanity filtering you guys have noticed!

I've noticed quite a few of my very innocently named neighbours now have stars in their GC names and/or farm titles. To name just one, S U G is starred out.

Oh gosh there are loads!

Nai (as in "***ls")
lem
bol (as in ***ts")
edan (as in "fe****d wake up the animals")
stake (as in "it******n me ages...")

Edit: and yes LadyD, sug as in "***ar" - lol

Edit2: It's a very keen profanity filter as well isn't it? If you try to get round it with spaces or numbers or underscores you just end up with more asterisks! Hence Mosey asking me "do you n e *******y products?" It's hilarious at the moment but I'd imagine the novelty will be short-lived - lol

Is that "sop" then? Sometimes it takes a while to work out what it's actually trying to block!

Farm name including the word kiss had that word completely blocked out??? What's wrong with kiss? Unless it's followed by something rude, which hers wasn't.

My farm names are patches1 and patches2. After the update they became ***ches1 and ***ches2. So I guess the filter sees "pat" as profanity or something. I changed the farm name and wrote it backwards (1sehctap<---) and that seems to be okay. But, now I won't be able to change it back until it's fixed because it says patches1 is an invalid name.

Then block a*s, not kiss! I do agree though, that's probably what prompted it, but you can't let the machine make every decision!

My farm's name was Murph CPT (short for Cape Town - so anyone in my area can see) - then it was known as
Murph **T

I've since changed it to MurphZA.

Wouldn't it be better if we could just report offensive names? This seems to be too much to deal with.

I think the main purpose of the profanity filter is to protect conversations within chat, since it's intended to be a kids' game.

I'm sure Hay Day has blocked all the words related to any items, therefore you cannot ask for any items, period! ;)

Apparently "fan" is not allowed. So much for geeking out and calling my group Fandomers United. :-(

Haha.. I can see that a few of the blocked letters mean something a little bad(ish) in finnish.. It's going to be difficult if all bad words from all languages are blocked even when in the middle of a word from a different language..

I can see from one of my friends that "mus" is also blocked.

Part of my farm name is being blocked: it doesn't like "aids" I guess, as in Glade Maid's ...

It doesn't like my name "Stefanie"

I tried to name my chat group ohana but it wasn't allowed. Means "family" in Hawaii.

My gamecenter id/farm name become LUK***KIE.... LUKPOOKIE.

If you chat a word that starts or ends in the letters "so", it bleeps those letters. Eg... Some becomes **me every time. Also becomes al**

It doesn't like my name any more. I've been playing for a LONG time with that name.

Yesterday, I changed the sign to thank a neighbor. Now, I can't even put my name back on.

My farm name, "Musicus' Boerderij" became "***icus' Boerderij".

I also noticed that the word "music" caused my neighbourhood description to receive a profanity alert, and I was unable to create it until I removed "music" probably because of the same 3 letters, and I sincerely don't know what they mean in a profanity sense.

Seems like the product names that are actually used in the game itself would be a good start list for safe words. Those are going to come up the most frequently and are safe by virtue of being used by the game itself. Multiple have been blocked like "stakes".

The profanity filter thinks my surname is a cuss! The name is "makemson" changed it to "makem**n" ... :*(

The word "symbols" came out sym***s

Awesome came out awe**me, which I immediately read as Awe, f*** me.

The word "fish" comes out ***h

I can't believe "so" and "lemon" are censored words in the chat. now that is really really ridiculous!

In Finnish, "sit" gets used quite a bit and when blocked, makes it difficult to understand.

Also "mutta" was blocked.

Who knew that Hay Day has such a profane community!

Taantumus has been my farm name for ages, but in the last update it has become Taantu*** - luckily I am not from that area, that is actually a valid village name, seems a bit odd for it to be blocked :D (just south of Rauma, Finnish for those of you wondering)

There are always going to be words that sit in other words that shouldn't be censored. Can you imagine how many words just in English have so in it that aren't in anyway offensive.

Chatting has become almost impossible. We have tried to share GC names and they get censored. Any word that is separated by spaces seems to get censored. So if I try to type something and type s o m e thing, the whole thing gets stars. I was trying to type threatened and the ned got starred. We have figured out that you can use a zero to type s0me, but that's annoying with the mobile keyboard. Oh and I can say dang but not nails. We have been doing a fair amount of cursing due to the goofy censors

Maybe it just would be easier if Supercell gives us the 10 or so words they'd like us to use. ;)


I just find it funny that the first word I said to someone in chat looked like a swear word.

This is ridiculous. I tried to post this is dumb and it came out this is ***b, but it let me say it was stupid! which is a bad word at my grand kids house.

I tried to ask how do people send messages and it came out how ****ople send messages. What the heck is wrong with do pe.

I can call someone stupid but not call them a dope? And when i do I can't apologize because it won't accept sorry.

Someone went really overboard. I get that cursing is bad but the role of the leaders of the group are told they can kick out people who curse. We are mostly adults, I think we can police ourselves in our own little groups. The same filter for the forum should work for the chat.

My neighborhood came up with bults for bolts. I was calling them screws with square heads lol . What I read here somewhere is they're using the CoC censer. Well, we're Hay Day and a whole different breed of peeps. I think Hay Day makes them enough coin (lol) to allow the Hay Day side their own word filtering database. Geez!

I typed 'Hello' and someone reported me almost immediately so I would assume it's censored.

hora is also censored... hmmppphh

The word email is also filtered. We have to use electronic mail as in I sent an electronic mail to my sister.

We have also taken to separating words and sending them in separate text. Someone tried to say they are red and available and it took three separate posts to separate red and the word and. What the heck is wrong with red and

Edit. When I told them that I told you all that it took three separate entries, it censored that also apparently that it took comes out tha******ook.

And ridiculous comes out ridi****us.

I was trying to tell somebody in my NH the stars were that the profanity setting are set to tight and it and it came out pro***inty. And problem is prob***

Can't type the word bolt, nails, so, as you know or sorry, etc.

Also no fishing spots but "wishing spots"! Good grief :rolleyes:

This is is intriguing. Why does CoC sensor the word "awesome"? How is "so" a swear word? Don't you need at least another letter like an "l"? So many questions...

I switched the m and n in lemon to get lenoms. My grandkids used to say lenomaid.

I'm sticking to kik till they fix this. Most of the words we use on a regular basis in conversation you can't use. I'm not happy.

There seems to be. Problem with the letters s and o together , affecting also and somebody...weird or what

My farm name is Pattywacksacres and the Pat is now *** so I'm ***tywacksacres now! I'm not changing my farm name. Lemons became ***ons, I too tried sour fruit and that became **ur fruit. Fishing became ***hing.

This is really disappointing and I regret spending the extra diamonds to speed up the chat house, feel pretty stupid actually, I got caught up in the moment. This chat is never going to work when you can not communicate at all. No one seems to know what to do with the chat.

My farm name is being filtered. It is Moogle McDoogle and it is being filtered to Moog***cDoogle. Also in the chat, anytime some uses 'so' it is replaced with **. Also a friend of mine whose farm is Pistol's Farm now says ***tol's Farm. I would really like my farm name back. :/ Although- thanks for the otherwise awesome game, keep up the good work and I'm loving the neighborhood update. :)

I will say this here too. Someone else said that since the report button is so close to the visit button, it might have been an accident. Since it is impossible to say almost anything, I doubt they reported you for what you said.

I love the chat feature but oh my! I can't use a combination of "so" in anything. And when I ask if someone would " need anything" there are stars! And guess what? We can't say "fish" - have to say "the things that swim around...."

I think it was Tiggerr that said to put s0 instead of so. It help for some words. For stakes I started putting st8kes.

I just checked something. If you have that keyboard that has pictures on it (not sure what its called) you can use the fish symbol ��. Oh maybe they cant see it either.:(

You can bypass the 's" problem by holding down your finger on the button and slide across to š or ś

Obviously if i try to fix it i get an "invalid" But if i type it in as: Ely*ian Fields it works..

Is the age of the average hay day user 8?

Certain words and terms should probably be filtered, but the current implementation of the filter is absurd.

I'd like an option to disable the profanity filter altogether.

Need anything shows as ne** **ything
Visit shows as vi***
Duct Tape shows as duct t***
Any word that has the letters "so" like something shows as **mething
Fish shows as ***h. We started using feesh for fish

I don't know, but the word do pe ---> dope can relate to drug use in Norwegian, which also is one of the languages available in HD.
