it it is just funny to me to hear these arguments. I don't think I have lost 30 mil gold and elixir over my entire coc experience. Certainly not over 6 months! That is losing 155k gold and elixir each and every day.....

Nowhere in this thread do I read a sentence from any opposing post showing signs that I am losing the argument lol. Nice try though. P.S. You wouldn't perform well in my debate class, just saying. You are standing on one pole here in a pool of sharks. Add more polesto stabilize yourself and you won't look like a joke to us. I see where you are coming from but the fact is you cant play 24 hrs a day, you must be sleeping (and not raiding and not maxing your storages) at some point and assuming you dont sleep with maxed storages then the lvled up collectors are making resources for you that in time, over a long period of time is all good....in fact its lovely

To those that don't want to upgrade resource collectors. DONT UPGRADE. Your choice. I'm sure the day will come when you will. I waited a long time before upgrading mine. I relied on raiding only up until about TH8. Then well, there was nothing left to do but upgrade them because let's face it, they are so darn cheap to upgrade than everything else at some point i just upgraded to keep my builders busy. Do they help? Yes mostly while I'm on shield but OF COURSE raiding makes more money. Duh....

Buddy, this isn't even an argument anymore. We aregue, you troll, we argue, you troll, repeat. What do my typing errors have to do with anything? Well since a maxxed gold or elixir collect @ th9 gives you 432k a day. I'd say you CANNOT TAKE 3,024,000 in one raid. You sir are not very smart. MAX COLLECTORS if you are super active, after defenses. It helps!

You guys are being pretty condescending over a simple difference of opinion. Also, 30m gold over 6 months is absolute peanuts.

We are simply saying that to "us", the opportunity cost of the builder time is not worth the increase in collector loot. I highly encourage any one who feels differently to not follow our path.

I also clearly said that as I approach TH9, I am starting to work on upgrading my collectors into my plan. I see that with both much more expensive upgrades, and a much busier personal/work life, that I could finally use the extra income.

Finally, I'm not sure why you feel the need to insult the people on the other side of the argument. I can do math. I simply value different things that cannot be built into your equation. Yes, spending my builder time on other things allowed me to reach and max TH levels faster, which gave me more enjoyment from this game. I love to raid, but I hate to waste gold on full coffers. My walls have been done at every level well before my defenses/lab. Again, I realize this balance changes for "me" at TH9, and thus already have my mines at level 9 going on 10 as I finish my TH8.

Anyway, I did enjoy the discussion. I'm not saying you guys are "wrong", because for almost any other playstyle your advice would be dead on. But I do not like the one size fits all approach to giving advice. Clash on.

Again, i was referring to the difference between what I have now and maxed collectors. Not from zero. So I guess it's you that's not very smart. I was exaggerating a bit, but not by much. It's only a couple raids difference a week.

If upgrading your M&C's all comes down to doing what is the most responsible thing for the clash farming community then it would be fair to say screw them, hahaha. The responsible thing to do, given that logic, would also be to not attack less active towns with weak defenses and give them a change to upgrade stuff, or they may rage quite the game and be taken out of the search queue altogether. I say do what's best for your towns development not other peoples and yes that's really not very responsible of me to write, if afraid it's not a very responsible sort of a game :))

SC should add an achievement for upgrading mines and collectors, it's going to be the only thing that makes many of us greedy farmer do it in the lower stages of the game. They won't of course because that would add too much loot into the system, something they are very concerned about doing.

All that being said I started to upgrade my ones and as an active player should have done it a long time ago, nobody takes much out of my ones apart from me. I also really don't enjoy seeing abandoned Th9/10 bases with level 6 and lower mines, although I'd still always rather have maxed defenses over maxed M&C's, who wouldn't?


Back on topic, DE drills are really worth maxing ASAP cause they really do help generate the dark you need, at Th9 4800 dark per 24 hours from maxed drills is around 20% of my current daily need!

Actually as a mid TH8 I agree with you, so there are at least two of us. My goal is to upgrade them though while sitting at th9.

Then again I can also see the downside of my choice... I will be on vacation next week and will only access the game maybe once/twice a day - this is when I will see the downside of not upgrading the mines/pumps (currently lvl7-8) earlier. Maybe will upgrade them then to stagger my builders...

My son just started playing the game and my first comment was - max your mines/pumps/storages/defense etc - in that order :) Totally not what I did, but I see the benefit.

And yes, I do agree that this is an entertaining thread and with my above comments I am setting myself up for a bash on my decisions... it is a game and I enjoy it and the forum atm!

This guy is finally someone who is onto it!!! Time can be better spent upgrading other buildings rather than collectors! The DE drill is not really worth it until lvl 5+. But even then its not going to get your heroes for you, you need to raid DE for that. Also im the same, my mines and pumps are only lvl 7 and 8. I don't see any point upgrading them if i can constantly farm enough resources to upgrade better, more useful things. Plus if you look on the

If you are TH9 two lvl 6 drills will bring you excellent amount of DE. I wish they gave us one more DE drill.

The best order probably depends on how active you are
drills/pumps/offence/mines/defence + storage when needed + walls when possible, would be my suggestion

If I may interject, here is my opinion. Those of you who have time to constantly raid with barch/bam etc and have workers busy 24/7/365, well good for you! The simple logical point that others are trying to make is that even though you may make a lot of resources raiding, the optimal rate of income can be MAXED by MAXING your resources. Although time spent playing the game is different between different players, the numbers do not lie. Lets just do a simple equation for those of you who say you have level 8 collectors/pumps. 1900/hour. max is 3000/hour. difference being 1100, multiply that by 6 of each collector/pump, then multiply that by 24 hours, then by a 30 day month, you get 9.5m resources. supposing you get 150kea raids (300k raids), that's 31 raids/month for doing nothing. yes, it takes time to upgrade them, but the effects are higher the earlier you upgrade them. It IS possible that you make plenty of resources where you may have builders busy at all times, however, it is MORE effective having maxed collectors while you do so. Some of us do not have the luxury of checking in so often, whether it be kids, work, sleep, errands, etc. It is simply the factor of how much a person plays that has the biggest impact. SO both sides need to stop bashing the other, and just enjoy the game! All resources derive from collectors. So don't bash people who you raid who have maxed collectors when you get your income from raids. both sides have a good point

For th7, that 276 days equates to 55 days with 5 builder at th7 and you need to get 67 million gold to max it out. At that rate you need to accumulate 1,226,200 a day to max everything in the fastest time possible without gemming. I will say that again: you only need to farm 1,226,200 a day to max out th7. For th8 the 562 days equals 112 days with 5 builders so you need to farm 1,979,372 per day to max .

Why would you waste 20 days upgrading mines/collectors when you can farm that? You can't store gold in this game. There's only so much you can spend/hold.

At th9 it becomes 6 million per day. So unless you are a hardcore farmer, this is actually the time when you should max out your mines.

Hey cool, exactly the conclusion I intuitively reached. Glad someone gets it.

Other people farm different amounts of gold every day, so it might make sense for them to max out their collectors earlier. However, if you farm 2-5 million gold a day, than your argument makes perfect sense.

I realize we are kicking a dead horse at this point but.....that is literally our exact argument. That each player should make their own choice based on their own playing style. Hyper-active farmers don't need collectors til around TH9. Everyone else should max them much, much earlier.

They're amazing totally worth upgrading I collect 900 plus from it a day so yep totally worth it and mines only lvl 3!

Well at least we have some numbers! Keep in mind your builder days are inflated because 48 of those builders days at th7 are for the collectors themselves. So you probably have to farm 1.5 mil a day. Since you have less builder time.

But I am sure that will not be a problem for you. Even though, I find actual avg loot per day is normally far lower then players think.

But that really is the bottom line, no matter what you will have to play more to max a th level then someone who has maxed collectors. Your time, your choice!

I would recommend doing them at tail end of th8. Rather then push them off to th9. You will have some key defence upgrades at the start. And you will need mass amounts of elixir at the start of th9.

I agree with this post completely.

I just started playing 3 weeks ago, so I'm only a TH5 (currently being upgraded to TH6), but raiding is a lot more fun than waiting for resources to collect. At the moment, my storages are about half full, and I have nothing for my builders to do until TH6 except to upgrade my mines/collectors. It's pretty boring, but at least they're not idle (I planned this out to get them to level 7-8, but I didn't realize how boring it is not to raid).

As to the argument that the whole CoC economy is based on people having mines/collectors: that is true. I would hope no one is making the decision to have their builders sleep instead of upgrading them, but if the builders are upgrading other things, then clearly there are enough resources in the CoC economy. If there is a scarcity of resources, more people would choose to upgrade collectors/mines, thus increasing the resource output of the CoC economy. That's how economic equilibriums work.

I agree, I am doing them now at the tail end of TH8. I actually chuckled this morning as I put in a level 9 mine upgrade, because of this thread.

Ok, have to post here since some of the backlash people are getting over not maxing their collectors ASAP.

I think we can all agree that maxing DE drills are a great priority and should be done earlier on.

Mines and collectors? I personally have them at lvl9 right now.

Up until th8 I was able to keep 4 of my builders busy non stop. I maxed both walls and elixir upgrades before going th9. I didn’t max all defences as I would have been stuck with max elixir for days which imo is better spent progressing to th9 and using it on new upgrades.

Did I need to spend longer maxing my collectors? I saw no reason to spend this time on maxing collectors. My limiting factor was building time.

I didn't buy my fifth builder but if I did, I probably could have managed to keep my fifth busy too.

Th9 though has been quite resource intensive. Upgrades are 5m+ and walls are expensive. Now is the time to max collectors.

This is my play style as a farmer. If you can't farm so much, then I would advise anyone to max their mines/pumps much sooner. Most people should indeed upgrade early.

Everyone has their own play style and what they think is most important.

There's a very simple situation here: maxing out your pumps/mines/drills provides more resources than if you do not. There's no if's or but's about it. It doesn't matter if you raid 10,000,000 a day, it doesn't matter if you take a week break, it doesn't matter if you gem and max out your base to th10 in a week. At the end of the day, you will get more resources if you upgrade your mines/pumps/drills.

Anything else you say about how much you pull in raiding or what your defenses will provide is completely irrelevant to this discussion. The fact of the matter is you make more resources by upgrading them. Flat out. End of. There is absolutely no reason to not upgrade them if you want more resources. Maxing them out provides more benefit than not maxing them. Raid or not, gem or not.

Regardless of your playing style, you should upgrade it earlier.

TH9 has so many things to upgrade and need so much resources and so much time that sparing builders' time for mines/collectors upgrades would just make things worse.

Do them they give u free loot for no effort just like hogs :o

Yes, you make more. And if your storages are full because your builders are busy upgrading your collectors/mines, what then? Is it still worth getting more resources when you don't have builder time to use any of it? I've maxed out TH5 (except for collectors/mines) without my builders getting more than a couple hours of sleep. From what I've read, it appears a decent farmer can max out TH7 (maybe even TH8) with little builder idle time. Why not wait until you actually need the additional resources to spend time upgrading them?

It takes about 11 days to max one out. Assuming you have 12 of them (6 each of collector/mine), and 3 builders (which seems likely until TH7 unless you buy gems), that's 44 days for each builder! That's not a trivial amount of builder time.

It boggles my mind that opportunity cost is so hard for people to understand.

Edit: I'll say it nicer. I don't need more gold right now. I need more builder time. Builder time is the only limitation I have, not gold. So my use of builder time is prioritized to help me spend gold as fast as possible, not create more gold. This balance will change soon for me, and it is different for every player.

My walls will be done weeks before my TH8 buildings are maxxed. I would never leave a builder idle. I"m not sure what else you mean. Again, I encourage you or anyone else to max their mines. I have yet to hear why it would have been more beneficial to someone in my position. Also again, I am now upgrading them because I know the balance for me changes at TH9.

I don't really understand what you're trying to say, but another strategy I disagree with is leaving a builder free for walls. I usually just farm a little before a builder comes free. Anything more than I need for the next upgrade gets dumped into walls or hidden (as much as possible) in the barracks. Even with this approach, I had maxed out walls well before I had maxed out my other buildings for TH4 and TH5. If you time your builds right so you space out the end times, I think it's doable for TH6 and TH7 as well.

I'm pretty sure my last post addressed this. There's only so much gold you need or can have at each town hall level and a there is also a certain amount of time you must spend to fully upgrade your base. Once everything is maxed you can't keep any more. If you farm it fast enough there is absolutely no need for any collectors or mines. My last 2 weeks at th7 and th8 I spent twiddling my thumbs and trying to trophy hunt because my walls were maxed before all of my upgrades. How would wasting all of that time upgrading my mines and collectors have helped me? It would have given me 2.5 weeks of no farming instead of 2 and taken me an additional 20 days because I had to max all those mines and collectors.

The game is set up so you cannot get uber rich. There are limits on what you can do at every town hall. If you play enough (which you may not, but I do) the amount you get from collectors is irrelevant.

When you hit your storage limit, the pumps and mines won't stop producing, once you dump all your gold in walls or buildings, you already have a good chunk of resources from the collectors that cover up at least 100-200k. So what's the problem with that?:confused:

Consider the fact that you will have to upgrade those mines and collectors sooner or later, why not upgrading them now and enjoy the benefit of it?

Why not upgrade them now and enjoy more loot:)
What if one day you can't farm the required amount for your town hall?
Let those max collectors take the slack.
It's not a question of if it's necessary, it's a question of more loot.

A very fair question. Thanks for bringing some sanity to the conversation. For the first part, there's no problem with that. If you feel like you want to exchange your time for the extra loot, GO FOR IT! I just chose not to.

For your 2nd question I'm th9 and my clan is going on a 2 week push. So now that I've argued for days against maxing your collectors I'm now going to max mine since I want all my defenses up. However, I totally stand by my belief that maxing collectors before late th8 at the earliest is a waste of time for any good farmer.

This is a good point. I'm upgrading them when I feel the benefit is worth the time. My entire argument is this point is different for everyone. For me it is TH9. I'd rather get the AQ and the other toys than wait 20 days on my elixir collectors while my storages are full.

Doesn't matter what the builder time is. My post makes no attempt to provide you (or the other responders) with points about opportunity cost. There is only one point made and it's infallible. If you upgrade them to max, you will get more resources. That's it. If you want more, you max them. If you don't, you don't. There's no talk of builder time or maxing out a th7 (which, if you want my opinion, is when you SHOULD do it due to the fact you've 3 more levels to go through, get that bonus earlier) since this isn't a discussion about opportunity cost. At the end of the day, you get more. That's it.

Everyone, even the best farmers in the game, will eventually hit a wall when they can't raid fast enough to keep their builders busy. If you use this time to finally upgrade collectors/mines, then they have something to do. If you have already spent the month a half (see my earlier post on how much time it takes to upgrade everything) previously to upgrade collectors/mines, then your builders are now idle and you're never getting that month and a half back.

This seems like an inefficient use of resources to me. At the beginning of the game, builder time is the most valuable resource for a decent farmer. Later on, when builder time is no longer the bottleneck, is when you should upgrade the collectors/mines. This obviously differs for people with different playing styles, but for a decent farmer, upgrading early is very inefficient.

@Small and Pete82: Yeah, I understand the logic behind your points. Farming at th7 and 8 is easy and the storages can be filled up pretty quickly.

It's all about managing your builder time and your ability to raid more frequently, I guess.

However, I still think that the effort will pay off in a long run. A player with maxed out collectors will definitely take less effort to raid compared to one who has subpar collectors and can still achieve the same result.

It sounds like you're trying to make a point on a technicality, when those of us arguing on waiting for those upgrades are trying to convey the real results. If a decent farmer upgrades the collectors/mines early, then they get to fill an already full storage at a faster rate. Is that getting you more resources though?

I don't think anyone is arguing that no one should max out collectors early. However, the logic for a decent farmer to max out before TH8 or TH9 just isn't there. You have to keep in mind that there are 4 resources not 3 (not counting gems). Builder time is very important at the beginning of the game. Maximizing gold and elixir (by the time you can use DE, it's probably the most important resource), but ignoring builder time doesn't get you efficient results.

The storage won't be full forever (unless they're elixir storages). It takes 50 hours for a max gold mine to reach its capacity. During th7 and 8, no mater how good you're at farming, as long as you can manage your builders well (1 free every 1-2 days), the mines will never reach its capacity. So no waste resources here.

Your point about time managing and price wall at higher townhall is much better than this point, tbh.

I can agree with this. I'm working on some mines now at the tail end of my TH8. I could never have enough gold at TH9. The game changes....

Can I ask what the benefit is of doing it late TH8 instead of early TH9? Some people mentioned that there's a lot to upgrade/build at TH9, but how does that factor in? If you're concerned about trophies, you won't have those defenses whether you stay at TH8 or go to TH9 and delay the defenses for a little bit. If you're concerned about being raided, then shouldn't you be dumping all the resources into upgrades as soon as you hit TH9? So even if the decreased loot penalty for TH10 makes your base more susceptible to attack, you won't have much resources to lose anyway.

Good question. For me it is a personal reason. My job gets very busy this time of year, so I am taking advantage of some cheap and fast upgrades while I am busy.

Also, I figure once TH9 hits I'll be so consumed by the new stuff that I would never get around to the collectors. I'm not concerned about trophies at all, and honestly I don't take many big losses either. Essentially I am delaying TH9 a bit to fit my own work/life schedule. I can play more passively for a few weeks as I max the non essential buildings.
