Ok, this is my last post on this because clearly no one is going to change their mind here. With my current set up it would take me 98 builder days to max my mines/collectors (I'm leaving the drill out because we all agree the DE drill is a must have). For me, that builder TIME is a MUCH more valuable commodity than the additional resources I would gain from upgrading past my current point. For the casual player, upgrading the mines may be a more valuable commodity than their builder time.

And again, who said anything about lvl 6? I've decided that building them to lvl 9 was worth my TIME. If I go on vacation for a few days full lvl 9 mines is a nice raid when you don't need to use all of your troops.

And please, spare me the max capacity comment, how often does that really happen? Plus, with lvl 9 mines there is way more than enough capacity to be able to save up and still be able to raid.

Clearly you aren't that great of a farmer if you find it hard to believe that many people cap their resources while waiting for builders to free up. The top few players in my clan including myself face it all the time, and we aren't at all capped. It's just what happens, especially with elixer when your researches take 10 days+.

In your situation, you are in fact far enough along now that a couple of mine upgrades seems like a waste of your builders. I think I speak for more than just myself when Is say that my argument was more so geared towards low level'd players that can max there mines early to prosper in the long run. And the original argument was focused on the OP, which even you agree that DE drill upgrades are important. Mines and collector upgrades are important for all of the same reasons, just on a smaller scale that you find to be negligible for your level.

For your case, once everything else is capped, are you going to cap your mines when they are the only buildings not capped? If you do, you should have just done so earlier on in the race. If still don't upgrade them, I bet it will be because of this forum thread and your denial of our logic ;)


As soon as lvl 12 resource buildings come out, you can bet the smart ones will get those out of the way ASAP!

There is plenty wrong with that generalization. You guys seem to be taking your personal situations and broadly applying it to everyone. Not exactly "smart" if you ask me.

With a game like COC, time is a potentially infinite resource. On the other hand, the in-game resources are not and are limited to (resource generators)(total players) minus (removed bases). The large number of inactive bases removed from que, coupled with the false belief that upgrading said resource generators is a waste of time is what has the in-game economy currently in shambles.

Well I guess I lied about that being my last post. I just want to clarify the max capacity comment. I was referring to when you have an 8 million gold upgrade and you only have 8 million capacity. When you hit that upgrade button you are left with zero gold to raid <---that is a very rare occurrence. Having your storage maxed out is a different issue. We all know that most farmers are maxed on elixir almost all the time.

And the way my th upgrading usually works is I max everything out except for mines/collectors and then upgrade my th. While my th is upgrading I upgrade my mines and collectors (that is how I got them to lvl 8-9) so all that time that my th is upgrading my mines are as well. I assume they will be close to maxed once I hit that TH10, but if they aren't, no big deal I will just do what I always do and farm. Also, I will definitely get the new mine/collector up to at least lvl 8.

And I promise this is my last 2 paragraphs on this thread. My entire point was that it's about opportunity cost and what I felt I could upgrade instead of my mines once they got to a certain level. It was never meant to say "DONT UPGRADE YOUR RESOURCE AT ALL."

And lastly, to all of you who insulted me, I would recommend you take a college level finance course and get a grasp of the concept behind the time value of money. A CFO would fire you in a second with your weak arguments for upgrading mines early. The ROI is brutal.

Lol, per the wiki it takes 54 days for a gold/elixir collector to turn a profit if you upgrade them straight from 8 to 11. Now as a real world accountant working for a Fortune 500 company I can certainly tell you that most managers would *drool* over a project that turns a profit in that time. Called a no brainer.

From a gameplay standpoint you upgrade your collectors and then dump excess gold into walls. Win-win situation!

Oh come on, 54 days is an eternity in clash, it isn't in the real world. This is getting silly. It is all about opportunity cost and what is more important to you, time or money. Another poster said time is unlimited, and I couldn't disagree more. As a real world accountant working a busy season....time is the most precious resource possible. Gold/elixir are what is unlimited.
