Premature town hall upgrade syndrome ruins lives
Hey Clan,
Excellent job on last war. Superb participation. Desired result was achieved in fine fashion.
A couple areas for improvement were noted. Please consider for our future wars.
1. Attacking bases that have already been 3 starred. I saw this occur in at least two instances. Not sure I understand other than someone may not have noticed that the base had been killed already. Result is we wasted two attacks. Please pay attention to the status of your target.
2. Attacking with empty clan castle. Saw and did this. Before you attack ensure that you do a self check. Troops, heroes, spells, clan castle, and target. Take a moment to make sure.
3. Base configuration. We got some good advice from our mercenary friends relative to placing non defensive buildings on outer ring of base since loss of loot does not matter in clan war. I certainly am not going to require everyone to re-do their base in this manner every week. But, it does make great sense. Its a lot of icon relocation that may be too tedious for some of us.
4. Participation. At the risk of mastering the obvious, we saw how effective we were when we all attack per our plan. Lower TH first and we work our way up is proving to be a sound tactic. Thanks again for all ur support and teamwork in the execution of this.
5. War Castle Loading. We have had a couple wars now where a couple of our team mates have over achieved in loading castles with wizards. Lets all play a role and spread the burden. Should everyone who can make wizards fill just a few castles so that we all contribute on a more balanced scale???? Elders please provide input. Thanks.
6. Command and Control. I thought we did a good job addressing the high level targets at the end. Thanks for everyone's willingness to take direction for the good of the clan. This is more teamwork than anything. So I appreciate ur cooperation.
All for now on this. Again, elders and clan your comments and feedback are highly desired as we constantly strive to be even better. Cheers.
Greg
Clan War loss after action 6/15/14
Very close game and we lost by a small margin. I believe it is fair to say we could have won this game if we had done a couple key things differently. While there are a number of factors that contributed to our loss that we could control, I will focus on three in particular, that if we improve, will add to our ability to succeed going forward.
1. Target selection/attack sequencing. There were numerous examples of people attacking higher level targets with poor results while lower level targets were left untouched. Attacking from the BOTTOM UP and selecting targets based on the results of the lower level attacks I still think is a sound strategy. We did not apply this in a uniform manner and it cost us stars.
In the future it would be helpful if the bottom third of our roster conducted their attacks upon the start of the war.
2. Participation. Self evident. If people know they cannot make a war I am willing to permit them to inform clan leadership of this ahead of time, then drop to bottom of roster or even drop from the clan for the war. Provided this communication occurs, they would be welcome back. Please comment on this as it would be a dramatic change from past practice on allowing members to return once they have left the clan.
3. Enemy Clan Castle Troops. I think we can call this our adverse trend. We still have folks who need to attempt to draw out cc troops before committing to their attacks. The bases in this last war made this difficult for sure. I would suggest we try more giants/pekka/hogs or golems be used as survivable troops to throw at a base in an effort to get the cc emptied out. Any thoughts or ideas on how to better accomplish this are welcome. This has plagued us in numerous wars. We have to crack this nut to improve the probability of success on our attacks.
So there are numerous other things that we saw that contributed to our failure but I think we should focus on these for now.
Again, thanks to everyone who participated and did their best. That is good enough for the clan and that is all we owe each other.
Please post comments and dialogue so that we can continue to grow as a clan.
Take care and good hunting on Wednesday Clan War.
Stay in the attack.
Greg
Agree with pretty much all that is said.
I personally left some lower targets alone as I expected lower level clan mates to take part. They didn't. One person, now booted, criminally came on and didn't attack. Thanks. For. That.
I also had an incident where I clearly said several times I was about to attack a particular target. 1 minute passes and someone is attacking it. I think it would be a good idea for clan mates to discuss who they are going to hit before doing so.
The drawing out of CC troops message needs to be heeded by some more than others. I've seen examples of poor attacks time and time again by the same person and not learning from past mistake - the same can be said for using what would be deemed weak-♥♥♥ troops that would be great in a loot raid but near on useless when you *know* you're going to be facing high end CC troops.
War liabilities need to be addressed 24 hours before war declaration. War liabilities aren't just those who don't compete but those who can't understand a simple donation request or go gunning for personal glory over a team win.
We should've had that last one but we live and learn. If we make the same mistakes again then we get what we deserve.
On another note, I agree with level 60+ but I'd rather an active, savvy L55 over an L60 who just doesn't get it, esepcially if the 55 is vouched for.
Hello, Gents.
1. This is one that I've been thinking about, especially considering how the "recommended target" 9/10 is useless to go by. I know you have already considered and decided against assigning targets. I agree with Steve regarding locking in on a target, troops trained, and then someone else snags it. I also get stage fright with attacks, and I feel that knowing who the target is ahead of time will help people strategize, prepare the right troops, and also not waste time (like I so often do) decided which base isn't too hard or too easy. Here is my suggestion:
I've been watching my husband's clan recently. He's basically let that account go to waste, so I've been keeping maintenance on it. (It's my freaking iPad, so he just needs to give it to me already, but I digress...) Their war method isn't perfect by any means, but how they organize their attacks seems to be pretty efficient. Day one everyone attacks the enemy village that corresponds to their number in the war map. The problem I have with this is similar to the recommended target suggestion, but it would prevent people from claiming dibs on the same target. So theoretically everyone should have hit the one village assigned to them. Second attack is used to clean up stars. For instance there are a lot of noobs in that clan getting 0 or 1 stars. Let's say husband's first attack is a 3-star. He can then go ahead and clean up a 0 for his second or wait til the next day to see what is leftover. One thing they don't do, which is where our strategy shines is saving the top THs for last. I think a mixture of both could possibly give us a sound strategy when it comes to selecting targets.
This is what I propose:
1. Bottom half (or whatever fraction you think is best or by TH level) attacks the number that matches theirs in war map. For instance, this war I am #28. I personally think their 28 is too easy, but that's part of the downside.
2. Later on (depending on war activity and success rate) or day 2, I clean up some bottom 0 stars. OR if we see that someone hasn't attacked their assigned base yet and it's getting close to the wire, I hit that base. This way I have the option of cleaning up a base I know I can take or at least having a shot at a ghost town.
3. You Top Dogs do your thang, and at least you know there's a solid effort below you.
Pros:
Everyone is responsible for their own target. No confusion.
No planning attacks and then target is gone.
Adequate time to ask for advice from other clan members plus strategy/troop planning/training time. (Members could find similar bases in multi-player to practice on. Similar to what JM was saying the other day, but we would KNOW what to look for.)
Less opportunity for extremely mis-matched opponents and eliminates target-choosing hesitation.
Gives us an easy reference for who has not shown up for war and allowing more time to assign 2nd attacks to those "ghost towns" if necessary.
Still allows us to start from bottom up but in a more orderly and efficient manner.
Cons: Matched enemy base may not be appropriate according # position in war map. I'm sure there's more, but...LOOK! A squirrel!!
Anyway, let me know what you think. I think it is at least worth a shot!
Yours Truly, Azure
