Zap or No Zap

I am at townhall level 8 and have recently bought my BK and upgraded him to level 2. I am wanting to get him up to level 5 to unlock his new special ability. I have tried zapping DE storages but the rewards are low and it slow going. Im curious to hear if you guys think that zapping for DE is efficient or worth it. If so, where is the best trophy level to zap at? Would it be worth it to upgrade by lightning spell to level 4?

If you answered no, what are your strategies for farming DE?

I tried it and it's not my thing. Even with a boost the spells are to slow to make and a high DE base to hard to find.

As a fairly new TH8, I have found plenty of DE at Gold 1/2. I use BAM or Barch and add DE as a resource priority. Exposed collectors and the odd storage offer a good supply along with the gold I need.

My BK has upgraded 5 levels in 2 weeks while my lab rolls elixer upgrades. The tricks at level 5 are totally worth the cost of the DE as an extra rage makes BAM rock!

--Do not sit on large stores of DE as you will be a prime target for higher TH's!

I only zap if I'm really close to a DE upgrade and they have at least 2k that I can't steal with barch

No zapp!!!!!!!!

I did not use this method but I only seriously farm DE at TH 9, when my level 6 troops can simply penetrate the target's defense at take DE and gold/ elixir altogether.

when you have full elixir storages and nothing to upgrade zap de! people cry "oh it's too slow" free de the waiting time is nothing!
i just save my de from drills and zapping de when i have no use of elixir(never use de troops)
so my heroes are at decent lvls!

Zapping is awesome. I don't get what you all have against it, they are raiding you, and that's what they get. They chose to raid you like you chose to raid others for DE. You may have gotten it with troops, and they get it with spells. Keep in mind both spells and troops cost elixir. Spells are more costly of the 2 based on average raiding strategies, so give us zappers a break. We are hurting ourselves more than we are hurting you all..:D
