Agree 2K trophies is good for DE, I manage to get lvl5 barbarian King with TH7. I only use lightning spell to attack dark storage lvl3 and above, each attack return me at least 500 - 700 DE. TH9 and TH10 have more collectors, by take down 2-3 collectors it give me additional 100 - 200 DE.

By using this method, in few hours time I can get few thousand DE.

How much should the available Dark Elixir be, that is worth using 3 lightning spells on?

Are you lightning spells high lvl if it is it should get you 500+ depending on who you attack. Go high, zap or find people with full drillers and attack them and you shud get dark elixr in no time:o

I currently am in gold 3 on my main account, and I bring in 5k a day, the things you have to look for:
DE drills on edge of base (look for the full cube on the back)
Storages at the edge of the base (that you can get to with some archers/gobs)
And the people that don't value dark elixer at all (have drills and storages in the corners)

Easiest way to farm dark elixir for me was just getting to 1500 trophies, use goblins on drills and lightning spell the storage.

I use 3 level 3 lightning to get de and I use barbs to snipe townhall and archers to destroy drills.Now I have 4800 de

but it is not against any rules. He desperately need his BK. So let him zap and get the king ASAP :)
