I. Intro

I am Taylor The Epic, the leader of a farming clan, Reddit Rise and really enjoy long walks on the beach and trying to find bases that work well for all town hall levels. Lately I have been working on some different Town Hall 8 bases, and seeing which ones are best for certain attacks and trying to combine them all into one. As most people know, Town Hall 8 has a hard time defending against TH9 and TH10. This can lead to some problems when trying to protect your resources. Hopefully you guys can help me in trying to work out all the tweaks to this design and making it as effective as it can be. Now, onto the base.

III. How the Base Operates

In the past, I have tried to use vault bases for farming. I've made my own, which didn't work great, but okay. I've used ones from here, such as The Tempest, which is probably the best TH8 Vault base out there. The thing I've found with vaults is that they are a huge gamble. You either win and don't lose anything, or you get destroyed and lose it all.
All of the has led me to where I am now, a single core. This single core contains a pre-attack unlurable CC, and on the outside has 3 mortars and a wizard tower for maximum splash coverage.

My personal favorite part of the base, and the hardest to get down, is the traps that lure giants and hogs to them. As you can tell, there are 4 compartments on the outside, one on each side. These all contain one point defense, and 3 of them have a tesla, while the back one has a giant bomb. These compartments area all open, so to attract giants to them. What happens when a giant goes after, say, a tesla, is that the run into two spring traps, taking down 8 of them and wounding the rest. Those that are wounded are then taken out by the centralized splash rather quickly.

If the attacker does manage to get into the center of the base, they will run into centralized wizard towers, mortars, and air defense.

The Vortex does have all 3 gold storages, all 3 elixir storages, and the de storage in different compartments, so a 3 star is about the only way the attacker can get all resources, which is very, very hard without level 5 hogs.

IV. Defense Log

I haven't been attacked much lately, even though I've been breaking my shield and logging bask off whenever I am attacked. Due to wanting to see how this holds up at higher levels, I have been pushing up to around Gold 1 and will post back with some more logs once I do.

I would like to work on making a trophy version of this base. That is, as long as everyone finds that this one works.

I encourage anybody that would like to try this base out to do so, and also to pm me any logs they have, as well as improvements to this design they may have. I strongly appreciate any constructive criticism you may have about the base or the format of this thread. Also, I ask all of you to please try and help improve this design in any way, shape, or form you know how to.

VII. Changes

-I have swapped out the elixir storages for the wizard towers, for maximum gold protection.
-Took out the giant bomb in the upper right hand corner and moved it to the entrance of that compartment.

Really nice base, everything is up to par. Triangulated mortars and wizard towers, mostly pentagonal point defenses, centralized clan castle, and funneling! I don't really spot any flaws, at least at first glance, besides possible lightning of mortars/ wizard towers, so overall, good job!

I saw the base on the game and i think its great. Your base could use a few upgrades, but the base looks good. the point d is well placed, and air d is well placed. my only concern is that you need to have wiz towers protecting gold more. id suggest switching the bottom right wiz tower with the elixir next to it, and doing the same with the one on the left. hope this helps :cool:

Nocturnal, you see that Giant Bomb that you placed at the top right where there isn't a Tesla, the one behind the cannon? I feel it will be very hard for the giants to activate that bomb because, as soon as they destroy the cannon, they will start hitting the wall to break try and attack the Air Defense, because that is the next closest defensive building. Maybe we can think of a better place to put that bomb?

Good point. Maybe it would work better if that giant bomb was on the opposite side instead of the two small bombs.

Looks good. I'll give it a try once I reach TH 8 (8 days to go). The core looks similar to the one in the Spiral Sanctuary TH 7 farming base which I'm using with great success now.

As someone that routinely raids with Giants (yes TH9 picking on TH8), here's what I would try.

Your open funnels are clearly going to be filled with traps, so I take out AT and hidden teslas in the south with archers/barbs. I send in Giants after cannon in the south, with a rage spell. 10 WB's later (towards the south cannon) and I have your walls opened up walls for two elix stors and two gold stors, with a good chance of archers getting your third gold in the east.

I think it's a good base design, but you may want to look at the spacing of your gold storages. I think an experienced TH9 with giants will make you want to throw your phone/iPad across the room when you log in :p

I made a few changes to the base...

Attachment 46251I made some changes to the base with the mortar and wizard tower placement... I think it makes the base just a little bit better.

I set this base up last night to give it a try. It's pretty bad. Way worse than what I was using before, a hybrid farm/war base where I would swap the clan castle and TH (had it since before war bases were added).

In my first defense (@1350 trophies) I took 92% destruction and lost 300k+ resources. This was done by a mix of lvl 5 and lvl 6 troops. In my defense log, the next highest %destruction I've taken is 78% by all level 6 troops, 7 days ago (@1600 trophies), less resources were taken.

Defense #2: 52% destruction, just over 200k resources, level 5 and 6 troops
Defense #3: 55% destruction, ~150k resources, level 4 troops

For reference: I have less than 20 upgrades left before I have maxed out TH8 (+ a bunch of walls). Most of my walls are purple, with a handful of pink thrown in. I am currently in the 1300-1400 trophy range. I was around 1600 trophies a week ago.

This base is not very good. Maybe I've just been unlucky, but I haven't been this unlucky this frequently in a while.

Not sure how this stands up to hogs...

I like the core of the base but the perimeter could use some anti hog features.

I think what I'd do is move one gold storage and one elixir storage out of the core, since it's not until the end of TH8 when these get upgraded, and use the wall savings to create bigger perimeter cells with double big bombs and spring traps between defense towers.

just constructed this base, looks like it could have potential, allthough i'm not a big fan of the Wizard Tower placements, so i might move some things around but i'll be back with an update in a week or so to give more feedback on this base.
