I second this. Do not gem resources, farm them. If you need more resources just boost barracks to decrease time between raids, but never buy gold/elixir/de with gems; it is too expensive and never ending. Also, I wouldn't recommend gemming much at lower THs where the upgrades are faster, as you will miss the gems in the future, when you are a higher TH ( unless you plan on renewing your gem storage).

Save that gem till you reach TH9, if you can. Otherwise just use it on boosting barracks. Everything on TH9 is way to long for an upgrades.

RECIPE FOR CoC SUCCESS WITH 14,000 GEMS:

1.Buy all builders.

2.Upgrade all buildings (Including walls and troops) to maximum.

3.Upgrade town hall.

Repeat step 2.

14000 Gems...

Oh man!

I play for one year now. In total I bought maybe 3000 gems.

I´m lvl 108 now th10. Everything is minimum th9 max or higher. (Except walls. Only lvl7 or 8)

To be honest: I agree with buying 5 builders. Maybe speed up if they are al busy and the storages are full. Maybe speed up to buy a hero. Than speed up baracks or spells sometimes.

If you do so you can probably play 1 luxury year by these gems.

I wouldn´t have used so many gems, as I think, that the way is the target of the game.

Build and improve your village wisely by farming and you will enjoy the evolution more as if you gem it...

I agree with the rest, buy builders.

One exception to the rule not to gem resources, when you hit TH7 gem the 20k DE for your BK. It will be helpful and you can avoid fighting to get enough DE while TH7, just don't buy more DE and farm it going forward from there.

good point. Please note, it is far more effective to gem the build time when the build time is longer. This means, if the build time is 10 days and need 1000 gems to finish right now, wait for 5 days (5 days to finish) it would still take 700 to finish, and wait till the last day (one day to finish) it would still cost 200 gems.
So, it is best to gem a 14+ days building right after you started building it.

If you haven't already, buy your builders. Then upgrade buildings. Then if you can, upgrade the th and repeat. I highly doubt that will happen unless you are very very close to maxing
