Frustration: elixer farming at TH10 - advise?

Didn't expect to see a thread with this title did ya? Ok, with some shame I have to admit that I'm starting to become extremely frustrated with farming for the past few weeks. I'm a fairly new TH10, currently in need on one last army camp upgrade, DE drill upgrade and all lab upgrades. As of late, I'm finding that my elixer farming is slowing down to a crawl and sometimes even going backwards(!). Doesn't take a genius to figure out what that means: I spend too much elixer.


I've been using hogs in my early TH10 days but with the cost increase I stopped doing that. The problem is that I'm running in circles here. So what have I been doing:


1) Keep cost low and use Barch, but find that between 1800-2000 cups there are PRACTICALLY NO INACTIVES
2) Switch to light giant-based farm army to tackle better bases. Definitely some success, but heavier on spells so need at least 200 lix to make it worth my while. Longer build time and lower yield slows elixer increase to a frustrating point. Army is not strong enough to take down heavy bases with 400/400.
3) Switch to ballooning to take down those heavy targets. Finds that targets with 'easy' 400/400 are extremely scarce, and after getting bored of nexting I settle for less, losing elixer because of spells.
4) Contemplating to move up to see if better in Crystal 1-masters, but the elixer needed to get there will cause massive delay without assurance that it's better up there.
5) Rinse and repeat.


It's taken me almost a full week to farm 3,5 million elixer... No only do I feel like a huge newbie, It's also extremely frustrating to not being able to progress when I use what little time I have to play this game nowadays. In turn my attacks are getting sloppier, just worsening the whole situation.


I realize that this story will lead people to conclude that I want less nexting and more inactives. Not entirely untrue, but I'm not asking for a hand-out. I need some fresh perspective on this. I don't have the time to increase my farming volume. Should I just accept that it takes over week to save up a few million elixer?

I'm not TH10 so sadly I don't understand.
However my clannies have mentioned this and here are their solutions:
1. Barch at Crystal II
2. BAM at 1600-1700
3. Hogs at 2100 (Gotta sacrifice some DE)

It is easy to blow a lot of elixir as a th10. First thing, you HAVE to know the elixir cost of your army. A barch/bam usually costs me around 50k elixir. A light farming army of 16 giants/8wb/50barb/74archers/20 goblins costs around 100k. 16 balloons/70 minions is around 75k elixir. Ballon/minion army is very elixir efficient and very powerful. At the cost of 700de a raid! So you now know then minimum amount of elixir your target has to have. And DONT boost your spell factory. I find that I tend to drop way more spells when I have it boosted.

Second, prioritize the resource you are raiding for. Forget gold, forget de. Looking for bases with tons of elixir! Great targets are th9 with tanks near the outer rim. Or where they are clustered on one side of a base.

Third, consider starting a DE upgrade in the lab. So you can focus on getting your last camp and de drill done. Once those are out of the way, elixir is much easier to save. Since all the elixir upgrades in lab are two weeks.

I find if I focus on elixir I can farm a couple a mil a day. In the high gold leagues. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat as you my friend....

What I'm going is ballooning for a bit and saving up lots of DE and spending the gold on base upgrades.... Once I have around 30k+ DE. I switch to hogs.... Spend all my DE and earn lots of gold and my elixir rockets.

its not ideal... But I'm moving forward.

i can't wait to get these elixir upgrades out the way !

How relieving to find this thread as I'm almost throwing my iPad out the window being annoyed I don't find elixir as a new TH10.

I'm switching between

*Hogging (22-30 hogs) and 70 archers, 1-4 heal spells

*Balloon minion (16/70)... This maybe the most viable long term... Gonna do it for next few days...

*WB/Giant/Barb/arch going for 2-3 storages


Done 3 camps in about a week, but it is sooo slow and frustrating. By a fluke I've had more time to clash or I'd have done like... one.

Anyhow... When lix upgrades are done I don't foresee myself staying in gold. I think I will head up to masters and just never come down again. Only way to maintain there seems to be miniball going for 50% and exposed storages. It's good for pushing though... Already up there.

I used this strategy and I upgraded all 4 camp in two days with boosting:
- 16 giants/6 wallbreakers/50 archers/30 bar/20 goblin in 1600-1800 trophy. I collected 30-40.000 DE/day + 8 mil gold + 1 mil Eli
- Swich to 30-34 hog rider/archer/bar to hunt for eli.

It does not get any better as you move up. Resources are far and few between and you require bigger armies, with spells, to get to most. Make your army from DE and save purple elixir but run dry on DE. Look for DE and run out of purple elixir and so on and so on. It is almost to the point of not attacking anymore as every level is short on resources and it cost more to make your armies then what you are winning.

Wells I assume you are around crystal 2 or 3 which in my opinion is to high for farming even if your a th 10 though there is a loot penalty it is in my opinion that it is worth it to drop to between 1500 and 2000 trophies at this range you will find the best bases. These are the people who played the game for a long time and got maxed pumps and stuff then trophy pushed and got frustrated they then proceeded to quit the game out of frustration. Thier base quickly fell till they reached a point where their base earned just as many trophies as they lost and although that exact trophy level varies for each base most tend to be between this range. I've found that this kind of psychological analysis can be very helpful when playing clash. Hope this helps.

This is actually very sound advice. Thanks! It just bugs me that it has gotten to a point where I have to actually prioritize a resource over the other to that extent.

Glad I found a kindred spirit as well. When I became TH10 I rode the post-boost loot for a while it seems, since loot wasn't so bad with hogs. Now people are mostly broke. Especially the lack of inactives is frustrating. I know that 'working' for your loot is the intention of the new loot system, but when saving elixer this is just endless with the costs of army.

Disheartening. But I suppose I will at some point try to farm M1 and pick off storages outside of bases. Though the chance of being 2-3 starred and losing tons of resources is insanely higher there. Especially if you play in small instances like me and breaking your should every time.

Thanks buddy. I am doing that since yesterday as it happens. Takes about 30-40 next to find an inactive or otherwise juicy base. Will try to focus solely on elixer and see if I can get the last camp and goblin level 6 upgrade in before moving up again.

Stinks, but when your cheapest upgrade is 6.4 million gold, 80-90k de or 8 million elixir you have to prioritize your targets. Unless you are a farming machine!

Also, I just can not see farming gold and elixir in masters and up unless you are on for a long time! Or you are a near max th10. You get hit with some brutal armies that take at least 200k in gold/elixir. It is just too difficult to protect 9 stores! I did find de was amazing there and very easy to make tons! Had a couple of days where i hit 50-60k. And it is much easier to protect!
