When to start farming?

Okay so I'm almost TH6 and I'd like to start farming . Is it a good idea?

There are two ways of playing this game: farming and pushing. Pushing is going high up in cups, while farming is hunting for loot (gold, elexir, de) for your upgrades. Do you not realize that you have actually been farming till now?
