What if there was an icon, a symbol, or even a list of online members in a clan? It could just be a simple note to anyone looking for a chat. Also reducing the awkwardness of asking a deserted clan if anyone was online, and just asking them directly! E.g. The green dot by an online profile in the forums

Your idea of an 'online indicator' is great, but unfortunately it's been ruled out by Supercell, probably for one of the following reasons:
1. There would be strain on the servers, causing lag in gameplay.
2. There would be privacy issues/concerns.
3. Members would be harassed about not donating/talking if they were online.
