Life Under The New Loot System, Day 38: Hard Times

The New Loot System and all it's controversy sprang up right around I became a Town Hall 9, so I have no prior experience to compare it to. For me there was no upset to Town Hall 9 life, this "New Loot System" IS TH9 life.

I've had to run up to Gold 2 since no Town Hall 7 is worth raiding. (This morning I was bumped up to Gold 1 as others run screaming from the Crystal League.) I've got 220 troops, two x-bows (level 1 and 2), and my 4th wizard tower recently joined the others at level 6. My Dark drills are levels 4 and 5, and my research lab is ready to go--except I can't fund the good stuff so I have them working on the Level 4 Healer.

I find myself in a difficult predicament. Supercell reasons that if the new cap is higher, I can recover the extra damage because my opponents also have higher loot caps. Even though I was patient with their system I often find myself face-first in the flaw: Most towns don't have gold, and the ones that do are too strong.

Town Hall 9 is hilariously lopsided in resource needs, requiring not even 100 million elixir to buy all upgrades while demanding over a billion gold in walls alone. This means most Town Hall 9 villages you find will have scant amounts of gold but enough elixir to fund military upgrades in a reasonable amount of time--under 4 million anyway, more on that later.

It's later. There's no point in finding a town with both 350k+ gold and elixir. Such bases are TH10 with two, 5-way inferno towers and 3 level 3 x-bows. So I have to find bases with 250K+ elixir, or better. I can find a few but seldom do they have over 100K gold available. Three raids is all I have time for if I'm lucky. Spell and troop costs, not to mention failing at a raid (♥♥♥♥ING GIANT BOMBS) can knock the per-raid effort to 100k elixir. So three raids and an hour of work and I've got...I don't know, 350,000 elixir and 350,000 gold extra. Then I turn the game off and go to work.

Then I lose EVERYTHING because of the new loot cap. The Army Camps were 2,250,000 each, so even a raid and 12-hour shield wouldn't wipe out the whole day's progress. But once you start going for Level-2 x-bows or Level 6 Dark Drills, that's it. The day's progress is gone. The past two days I've been trying to get from 2 million elixir to 4 million elixir. Nope, wipeout on both days. Now my poor builder is out of work because I can't fund his project.

I was trying to raise up to 2.5 million for my Archer Tower. It'll be level 9 in 16 hours, I'd like to send it to 10. Even two days of raiding wouldn't get me the 500,000 more I needed, because every step forward is wiped out by some TH10 with Level 5 Hog Riders. Under the old system I'd be 60% of the way to my goal because with a 200k cap I'd be keeping an extra 150,000 on each wipeout.

Even upgrading to Level 4 hogs would help, but without a second level 5 drill I probably can't produce fast enough to account for raiders. I'm going to need lots of shields, which means I won't actually be playing the game because a stronger player said so. I could dump my gold into walls, but that's not as much fun.

As a Town Hall 8 I got to build my village on my terms. I bought the most expensive stuff first because I was able to earn more than they could take. I kept four builders busy until there was nothing but walls to upgrade. (Now I have a full set of 225 level-8 walls--which Hogs just jump right over, so there's 112.5 million gold well-spent.) Now I feel like every build decision I make is my ONLY recourse. I don't want to buy the cheapest upgrades ASAP, I HAVE to or else some TH10 is going to take my gold because that's 1/12 of a Level-11 wall purchase. Now, each time a day's progress is wiped out by a single player in two minutes, I have to wonder if the old system really was better.

First off Crystal is bad. It use to be such a great place for those middle of the road players. You could farm storages, not having to rely on collector raids.


Anyway.


First off, drop into the 1700-1900 range if you aren't already. 2000-2100 is a freakin' desert half the time. Don't get me wrong, some days are fine but when it dries up its bad.

Aim for th8 players mostly. But at this range you can also farm other th9 players who are farming th8 players.


Second, I have to agree that things aren't what I'd like. Its not the system I am upset with per say. I thought it was broken before. But these 350 raids are pretty rare, and often only in those bases with more than enough fire power to protect it. If I could make a crack at these players moderately often, I'd be happy. I even fair better than most, my base generally holds up but many people haven't had that luck. I see an awful lot of players spending their loot so it doesn't get stolen...

The old and new system had their flaws. But they also had their benefits. The old loot system had a cap at 200k each and it was hard to farm that because it involved constant raiding. But now if you raid a few 400k gold bases, you can still have profit for the day even if you are being wiped out constantly. Hope this helped but probably didn't :rolleyes:

Hey i turned th9 around the same time as you, maybe a week after The Update. After a couple of days i was so overwhelmed by all of the upgrades i had to do just to level my new defenses up to the level that the other ones were at. So i quit for a week, but then came back because i couldnt stand being away from this game any longer. So i came back and upgraded my loons to 6 and practiced with bloonion, then went on a trophy push for about two weeks. Last weekend i got bored and decided to try sub 200. I regret it, as the loot down there was horrendous and i spent the last 9 days climbing back up. Today, i reached my old farming grounds and was amazed to see how good the lot is. Im excited now to continue levelling my th9. Have faith, and i hope loot turns in your favor.

Lots of threads go "teh new loots system sux," followed by "nuh-uuuuuh." Another problem is, yes, there are many loot-complaint threads and I do hate being comment #21351 on the 48th one down. So, I've solved both problems with a bit of wry humor and took a...wait for it...NOVEL approach to commenting.

I just wondered if rather than debates we had an actual account of day-to-day under the new system. I will probably start a new thread when I feel there's been significant change in my gameplay. People will always shout their views from the rooftops in spite of existing data, but I like to hope a long-term record of TH9 life could be used to settle some of the sux/doesn't arguments, or at least supply the dev team with good data.

when you reach TH9, you need to raid TH8.. I don't know why you need to raid TH9.. and Gold 3 is usually a good place to farm.

Sounds about the way it is for most people I know. Game is seriously in need of help. The new updates just arent exciting at all. Nothing can make up for hitting next for 20 mins and losing loot instead of gaining it.

The loot is fine. you are all farming in the wrong areas.

Yes, it will be a bit tougher for newly minted TH9 because you don't have the troops.. but the loot is not bad. I was a mid-TH9 when the loot change happens, and now i'm close to maxing it and finishing my LVL9 walls.

and yes.. I have to spend my gold before I go off. which is fine by me since it allows me to do walls.

You guys are doing it wrong. TH9 should be farming in Gold 3 or Silver I.

If you get raided, you should be raiding at least more than 5 times daily to recover your losses and gain resources. Skip as many as you need for 200K gold/ 200K elixer and above bases (it should take no more than 30-40 skips). Also skip TH10 and even TH9 Xbow'd bases, or near max TH8 bases with resources in Storages. Target mainly collector raids.

I did most of my 1billion Gold looted from that range as a TH9.

Simple as that, now go!

Nope, check where I am now in game. I still gain 7-8mil gold daily. The new loot system is great, TH8s are now worth more than they were. Inactives are still rampant. I've had raids well above 400K-500K gold.

If all TH10's would actually go to masters or champion where they belong the system would actually be fixed.


im cup hunting for the first time in ages and sitting in master 2 (TH10 obviously) never seen so many resources.

Perhaps i moaned about this from the wrong angle while losing the ability to pick on poor TH9's that i can walk across. :P


Just my 2 cents as a TH10... im staying up here for a while ;)

TH10s can farm just about anywhere if you're not pushing. You have the access to the strongest troops in the game. Up in Masters, you'll definitely find good loot at the expense of costly and long troop training times. Waiting 1 hour to have the troops strong enough to face a TH10 base with 400/400 isn't bad, but it's not my idea of good farming.

The idea of farming is to gain as much resources in a short period of time.

Loot generally sucks.

Crystal 3 is especially bad.

Maxed Th10s with less than 1k DE are the norm.

Mature Th9s with less than 50k gold are common.

Th8s there generally carry less than 50k elixir.

I think the loot system is not updated I still had the loot penalty even in my last attack it showed only one lac loot and he had ten lac gold he is two th lower than me that means I get a fifty percent penalty

They kept the penalty but removed the bonus for the percentage for each th and so forth

way too much text, but i am at mac resources apart from de? At th9...

Im half way to max th9 except walls... All the way on th 9 after the update... What i noticed is that when i go 1550 + i got rolled up by some th 9 maxxed or th 10... What i do? Stay under this range... Have 6mil on storages and th outside walls... Working just fine for me.
