TH 6 - The monkeys guide to making it work

I have been debating with myself wether to to post this or not. I don't claim that I am the best base-designer in the world, or the best strategist for that matter. I am fairly experienced however, this is my second account and my first one is a TH 9 that I enjoy very much. What I am saying is "this worked for me" I guess, and it worked very well.

Sorry for the picture editing btw, but I prefer to stay anonymous. Or somewhat anonymous anyway. I am posting this cause I am 2 days from upgrading to TH7, so I wont be using this design anymore. It is kind of stupid, since I will get harder oponents if this becomes popular, but it is beatable by a TH7 that know what he is doing. Every TH 6 base is.

It is nice that the vast majority of the TH 7 owners have no clue though. No offense intended, but most are rather inexperienced.

The base is desgned after a few principles:

- Most attackers will go for the TH in one way or another to make sure they win. This is not a clever move if you attack with ground troops since most of them will path around the base while the mortar is hitting them. Your town hall is a crafty building, it takes a while for low level troops to destroy it.

- The spikes protect the innermost wall. It's impossible to protect the first wall with spikes in every angle. There's not enough walls for that at TH 6. Many TH 7 owners are also inexperienced in using wall-breakers. I haven't seen even one attack with wallbreakers that was successful in penetrating both layers of my walls.

- Almost all giants will path around the innermost wall first and hit the spring traps. One after another. While they do that they will either go flying or die from hits from the wizard towers and the mortars.

- The Clan Castles placement is crucial when someone attacks from the corners closest to the town hall since the CC troops will hit most attackers when they have their hands full with the defensive structures.

- Circling this base with barbs and archers or just archers are probably a guaranteed win. For the base defenses. The last attacker that did that didn't even manage to kill an archer tower.

- The base is vulnerable to air attacks (hello only one air defense), especially from the bottom side if the clan castle is empty (with lev 5 archers it's a different story) but large scale air attacks are very rare. I haven't seen one big balloon attack on this base yet. And as long as it's just a few the wizard tower and archer towers will take them out.

That being said i repeat that it can be beaten. I checked my logs before writing this and there's been 1 successful attack in the last 3 days. Giants, BK and lots and lots of goblins. He got one of each storage and all my mines and pumps. The vast majority of the attacks from TH 7 owners fail though. TH 8's wil hit you hard, even if some of them are rather easily fooled as well.

I'd also like to add that the reason that I maxed TH 6 is that this account sits on my gf's Ipad, so I raid pretty few times every day. Simply put I want to make more than I lose raid for raid. And I do that with a wide margin. I was also maxed at level 5 when I upgraded to 6.

I have pointed to the strengths of the base and avoided to point to the weaknesses. There are a few, but spelling them out would contradict the purpose of this post, which is to help other players struggling with TH 6.

I hope it helps someone. Simple as that. Feel free to criticize the design. I don't mind.

I should have spread the mines and pumps out more. But I liked the symmetry and it has worked anyway, so I allowed that

Very nice--I will pass this on to a few buddies of mine in my clan who just finished upgrading to 6, if only for the ideas.

I particularly like the circle with the traps. Nothing better than a design that sends attackers on a long walk while getting flung or pummeled. I guess I have already forgotten about what TH6 attacks are like because I am surprised to hear you don't get hit with effective WB/goblin (I would never use giants on this) attacks from the south/west. I am only at TH7, and I have 3 walls to go through, and it happens all the time.

a nice setup indeed!! your right.. it's beatable but for the majority of players around that trophy range/ level range you will hold up.

Successfull wb-attacks are rare. Most go for the option of breaking through to the gold and elixir, and for that an attacker will need at least 8 level 4 wb's perfectly deployed and timed without losing any to either defenses or a slightly less perfect aim. So in reality it would take 10+. Goblins will work though, but they will take losses, and unless there are a lot of them (again, level 4 goblins) they will die after the first storage more often than not.

One thing I would change would be to not put your bombs in front of your spring traps. Put your spring traps in front of your bombs. If a giant hit the bomb and then the spring trap, it's basically wasting the bomb. Putting the bomb behind the trap will save you a bomb for the giants or whoever survives the trap.

Yeah, I have been trying both out. Switching the positions between bombs and traps several times. But this is actually what have worked best, believe it or not. I started out the other way around, much like you describe. I am still not 100% sure though, maybe I should swap them around again and try some more.

Its the best TH 6 base I have ever seen. That isnt saying too much since all TH 6 bases are terrible, so I guess I am saying that that is the least terrible Th 6 base I have ever seen. :p

Heres my TH6 base.
No one managed to 100% me, i had some pretty badass attacks with lvl 2 dragons etc, armys with 200 capacity, however no one got me 100%.

Things about the base:
- Buildings in pockets make it harder for enemies to destroy more buildings, as they have to destroy the walls in between.
- Buttress walls, for anti wallbreakers, not many, but theres a few and they work good.
- Mortas placed in the middle, which means they cover the whole base.
- Decorations funnel the troops into the bombs/spring traps
- The two wizard towers both cover two storages, for anti-goblin massacre.
And so on...
The placement of the cannons/archer towers, may be switched, however I'm TH7 in 10 hours so i just had one working defensive building in each tower and the upgrading ones in between.

I like your base, but I prefer to protect my elixir more.

I haven't been 100%ed yet either. The last attack that included a dragon (20 archers, 1 dragon, 10 wb's, 15 giants, 35 barbs, 15 gobs and one lightning spell) was 4 days ago. He didn't even take one of the storages out. He did get 20k elixir though since he attacked me early morning when the pumps held a lot (well those that wasn't being upgraded at the time anyway), he also got 1962 gold.

Yeah it's a downside for this base, but the good thing is they are place one on each side, so he will have to attack, from two sides.
My most recent attack was: 105 lvl 5 barbs, 67 lvl 5 barbs, 1 dragon lvl 2, 5 wbs and barb king, he stole 1334 gold, and 35k elixir. He got one of the elixir storages.
I also find my self in a position where i am "over flowing" with elixir lol.

I also like your base, especially that theres two layers of walls and that you managed to put all the storages along with w towers, mortars etc. in the middle. Good job!

If I where you I would put the buildings outside the walls closer to the walls, so your defensive buildings better can cover them, but if you're doing it to avoid the enemy to spawn close to your base, consider buying some decorations, as the enemy cant spawn on top of them. They can also work for funneling, so the troops split up in small groups and the mortar then take them down.

Yeah, I am aware how decorations can be used. As I said, I have a TH 9 on my first account. And I allready use decorations in that way in the design. Didn't get all the flags yet though.

The gap between the buildings and the walls is there to encourage pathing around the base, the gaps are needed since the spikes can interfere with it otherwise. Especially barbarians and goblins. The idea is to keep many of them moving outside of my walls instead of going for my defensive structures. This wouldn't work against an experienced attacker, or at least not as well as it does here, but I covered that in my first post.

Ah I must have missed something. I see what you mean with having them moving around outside the walls, but it looks like, from my perspective, that some of the buildings can be taken down by a single archer (as you write it wouldn't work against an experienced attack). However with the size of the army camps it's hard to have a defensive building covering it.

My only recommendation is to move the air bombs, and the bomb on the other side of the spring trap, and replace them with walls. That way the units are funneled over the spring traps and you might catch more. I'd put the air bombs to the NW, since an attacker with healer/giant will attack the air defense first and then drop the healer behind them. Not that two air bombs will kill a healer, but they can soften it up so it will die faster to your clan castle archers, or a lucky archer tower that gets into range.

I had 2 pieces of walls (forcing the giants to path on the spring-trap) on each side in my first version of this base. I have used walls like that many times, and I really like it - but that made it far to easy to penetrate the first wall with wall-breakers. You simply don't have enought walls at TH 6 to be able to afford putting pieces of walls in the way you describe.

With the spikes (that wouldn't be possible if I had used the walls for pathing) 8 out of 10 attackers will not penetrate the first layer of walls (yes I know, TH 7 owners are truly horrible in using WB's, something I like to exploit). And giants will "mostly" path over the spring traps behind the spikes as it, so after some consideration I settled on the spikes instead, as they are worth more.

The air bombs will both hit a healer in a healer + giants attack with this placement as it is (only seen one real healer + giants attack though) since the giants will path around the innermost walls, making the healer path over at least one and sometimes borth of them. The design is also rather strong against giants, the spring-traps take care of those. The one attack with healers + giants I have seen ended with giants flying of, leaving the healer on it's own.

That is a beautiful base there! Have a problem now as I hit TH6 in 2 days, and although I consider my newbie skills decent in base building I know I will not come up with anything better than that. But I hate to just out and out copy someone elses idea ................

Unfortunately got 60% on the first attack with this design. Came straight through the Barracks with WB and bombers to hit the first layer of walls then sent goblins and troops around the sides and destroyed all the mines and pumps. Archers then cleaned up the Clan Castle.

Was probably good before the 3.54 and 3.124 updates with the improved wall breaker changes..
