Monday is Auckland Anniversary Day. The closest Monday to the 29th Jan, when William Hobson arrived in the Bay of Islands to sign a treaty with Maori. Only the top part of the North Island have a holiday then, other areas celebrate different days. The whole country has a holiday on the 6th Feb, Waitangi Day. This is when the Treaty of Waitangi was signed and Maori lost control of their country and we became a nation.Quote:

we dont eat lamb because it is so expensive. Which is bizarre considering how many sheep we have. Australians even make jokes about NZers and sheep because we are a big sheep farming nation. We export a lot. I have no idea why it should be expensive here. I love the taste of it but rarely buy it.
