Trophies without attacking or defending?

There is a member in my clan who's trophy count continues to rise however he has not been placed in a league and the count next to attacks won and defenses won remains at 0. How is his trophy count moving if he is not attacking or successfully defending?

He is successfully defending to gain trophies without a league badge your attacks/ def won dont rise
