Making Trophy hunting fun for all - Xsystem
So as a disclaimer, I don't trophy hunt but someday I'd like to. Currently I'm a TH10 and like many others really wish some of the pacing issues could be addressed (the loot I think is better for us after the update, but its still not as good as what I see my TH9 clanies getting. On a side note I'd easily trade a IT nerf for a loot boost in some way).
But I did want to throw out a concept to address the challenge of pushing trophies, namely the fact that it becomes exponentially more of a chore the further you go. Yes, you need gems. But you also need to play in a tedious fashion, sitting on shields, waiting for the perfect 'safe' attack so you don't do the 1 step forward, 27 steps backward thing.

My thought that I'd like feedback on is basically to not use the trophy system for setting the top rankings. Instead, use the existing trophy system to set the leagues as is done today, but make the top league a ladder or tournament system (depending on size) where once you are 'in' the trophies don't matter. They are just used to keep you in this top level of the game.
As the system today is dependent on alternative bingeing and sitting shields out, I'd recommend a match making system whereby every person is given 1 target to attack every day. This target would be based loosely on a tournament system, so the higher up the rankings you are the higher you are matched with someone. If you win, you move up the rankings, if you lose you fall. To make this work there would be no shields; and in fact there would have to be a mechanism whereby when someone decides to make their daily attack, it would give the defender say a 5 minute warning, kick them off, and the attacker would have 10 minutes or so to attack.
Otherwise, the game would stay the way it is. People could attack as much as they want for trophies or loot, but only 1 a day would matter for rankings. No shields, No searching. Everyone has exactly equal shot. Trophies could be used to give some sort of bonus if SC didn't want to totally nerd their value at the top.
Not sure if it is feasible as it could effect SC revenue, but I would tend to think it could be adjusted to still work out depending on how you set all the parameters. While it is a risk for them, the game is declining at the top, no doubt. Even if they bring in new players, if the people at the top start leaving it will diminish the excitement of the game for all. I've started to see this happen even within my clan.
