But you are wrong, it is a mistake to have it even partially protected, you obviously don't know how to Farm

I was a TH sniper once (made it to Crystal II as a TH6/TH7), now I am farming with my TH put like you can see it in my avatar. I currently even have two rows of decorations beside the TH, which you can see when visiting my base)

I do this for two reasons.

When I am farming and I come across a fellow farmer (with not enough loot for me to justify farming him) and he has his TH just like mine, so that I can be sure that there are no traps, I give him a quick and easy shield for free for the cost of two minions on my expense.
From one farmer to another, as a little gift.

When I was a TH sniper, I skipped next on many THs that could possibly have teslas or traps or were in range of a defense.
Why take the risk, when all you want is a TH and maybe a collector or two.

It is true what you say.
However, you are missing on a lot of opportunities to get a free shield, as I am sure, other people often press next on your your base instead of giving you a shield.

My defense sucks big time. (except for the skull walls)
However, I get 95% TH snipes as attacks against my base.
In the last two weeks I only had 3 real raids against my base at all.
Two were a revenge,(one of them even failed to take my loot), the other was the only real raid I got (hogged...).
Once I logg off, it takes about 5 minutes to get my TH sniped on average, several times a day. And nothing else is taken. Go figure.

So it is my firm belief, that it is better to put the TH in a corner PLUS put decorations beside it to assure the low level TH snipers that there are no teslas lurking to take their army.

Mistake is arming your 4 or 5 big bombs to protect your loot

Put them in the corner haha else you've got to rearm the other traps individually more often

You Obviously think there is only one way to farm. Ie. leaving th outside, out of defences so you get a quick shield.

Meanwhile some people like to protect the de just so that they can get free wins along with protected resources and use th as a buffer.

I know right... Some people are so stubborn they don't see the other side.
A clannie of mine had HOWIE (Mod) attack his semi-exposed TH with a full army and HOWIE failed to win... Goes to show you can really rack up the defensive wins.

Because if you partially protect it,so, some people aren't able to destroy town hall and give you a free shield because they don't want to waste 40+ troops. Also, some people would like to get your resources will not destroy your TH and leave you at 39% so you will not have a free shield.:D
