Am I ready yet for TH8?

That is very true! I do agree to an extent. The only reason I would say to upgrade is because even though he can take advantage of the loot at his current level, he would be able to utilize his elixir a bit more at the same time (while upgrading buildings in gold as well). He does have some things to consider.

When I was trying to max out my town hall 8, I pretty much ran out of things to upgrade with elixir. I guess that's why I'm a bit more for upgrading.

True, after maxing out your elixir projects, you will be sitting at 6 mil elixir for awhile, but after maxing out TH8, you will need every drop of elixir for lvl6 troops.

Exactly! But yeah, your points are very valid! He has to consider both sides. If he upgrades his town hall, he'll have to deal with the standard loot penalty for that town hall, as you said.

Max at least one resource before rethinking

I am also TH7 and I just don't see the point of going up-to 8 until I've maxxed absolutely everything. I use only BARCH and can farm virtually the same amount of loot as the TH9 & 10's in my clan and they mainly use BARCH.

But this obviously poses the question what IS the point of going up at ALL? if the loot isn't much better, I'm not going to use any different troops than I have already and I'm not exactly getting raided constantly to make me want to get to the better defence towers.

I do think this game is extremley gimped, the more I read this forum and the more I speak to my clanmates who have been playing since the beginning, it severely lacks any motivation.

If you're confident that you can farm for 90% of your walls and max out any other defense (maybe not cannon) during the upgrade time (10 days or something?), then go for it man.
