Hog riders the only solution?

Now that we're past the loot rules change, I'm noticing a trend that makes me think attacking is highly unbalanced.

As a nearly maxed out TH9 gold farmer; the only army I'm able to get loot with lately is made up of mostly hog riders. Every other army makeup I've tried fails miserably. Since the loot rule change has settled in, the only big loot I'm seeing (200k and above) is deep inside TH10 bases with dual split infernos (absolutely not worth my time). I've tried cup ranges from 1800 thru 2200, and choices were poor.

I've had windows where I was able to find easy loot from sleeper bases, but it's a rare occasion.

The fact that I can only attack with a majority hog rider army to get loot is making the game a bit boring. Even then, gaining loot is much slower then it ever was before the new loot rules, which were supposed to make it easier.

I've been playing CoC for at least a year now, and this is the first time I've started to lose interest in it. The only reason I'm even active is that I'm dumping gold into walls to avoid getting attacked all the time.

I realize results may vary from player to player, but I'm wondering if this is because I'm TH9, or if it's just harder to farm gold and save up now?

Unless things have changed in a week, I was farming my lava walls in the 1800 range as TH9. I was using BAM with goblins.

if you want to break centralized storages on maxed th9s, giant healers (+ rage) and balloon minions (+heal) work just fine.

for 1 layer storages, barch/bam works fine if you're a little skilled.

I agree with you, only a hog army gowipe and gowiwi work now, cant get any loot with regular troops, i used to use the healer in my army, but now shes completely useless against infernos

Hogs are completely useless against infernos as well, unless you're willing to drop a freeze/rage spell or more than 3 heal spells every battle.

Yep, freeze is needed. Plus hogs easily win versus any TH9 village, and they do fine against th10 if used properly, so its a safer troop config to use

Yeah, any base with even one split inferno I pass on without hesitation (unless it has over 400k resources). No freeze spell at TH9. :(

I am making gold just fine. Using Giants/Breakers with BAG.

Hogs work in Gold/Crystal sure, but costs far too much DE. I want to conserve DE, have heroes and many lab jobs that demand it.

Bloonion also very effective, but slower to cook.

If the TH10 base has no infernos or a single non-split, you can easily topple it with 22-24 hogs and a couple heal spells. Properly timed and placed heal spells can make or break a hog attack.

You have to drop both freeze and rage, if you want to even touch the townhall (at least that's what i get from my th10 clan mate who hogged to champ)

I have quite a few wins at master II when I was a Th9 as well, but "never lost against hog" is a massive exaggeration.

Exactly, that's why you see no Th9 hogging to master I, let alone champ. Once I got to master III, I had to switch back to balloonion to get to master II. Now that I'm a Th10, maybe I can get to master I.

I was just saying they can be beaten with base design, not just OP Infernos.

I've been using BARCH since 2012 as a TH9 until now. Works like a charm. (TH8 and below, i only used gobs and wallbreakers)

Thats because the people that attacked you fail using hogs, not even 5 spells are needed to overkill any th9 village with hogs

What's the minimum level hogs need to be in order to destroy a base, really?

I was doing well myself in gold a few days ago, doing 2 lavas daily. Currently pushing so I don't know how the loot is now down there.

Hey it's against maxed out TH10 so i use 5 spell (before update)
Read my reply carefully, i said if i attack TH9 , i only need 1-2 spell, because they don't have inferno
So you said you win def without inferno, for sure you got attack by noob hog attacker

I'm with you. I run anti-hog base and destroy 9/10 hog attacks. The other 1/10 are skilled, deploy in more than one spot and times spells perfectly. They earn there victories.




Discos in the ranges of crystal are stupid high. 1 is easy enough to deal with, 2 a deal breaker even with prematures


Right now trophy hunting and farming has a rift. Gold is farming, crystal III is a desert. Crystal II premature th10 orwell-designed th9. Crystal I is 90% th10.....


Also, honestly how many great hoggers are there honestly

I too am Th9. I find the new loot system great! I am using barch in 1540-1650 trophy range. I find plenty of inactives, and bases with storages very easy to get to.

Agreed, when I was a th9 I was never hogged for more than about 60%, most of the time they barely got to 50%.

as to the original question, I used giant healer as a th 9 with 4 to 8 hogs and the rest archers and barbs, worked pretty well. My current army as a th10 is pretty similar and works well against th9s, not so much against disco infernos....

I was out of elixir thats why i went barch, just started drags level 4, my last regular elixir troop to max

cheap army+ league bonus is not bad, and you dont have to search 30 thousand times to find good loot

but keep in mind that as a th9 you will be attacked very often if you have resources, nobody attacked me all day

I probably should have tried this. Just came down from masters and was only looking for 2 or 3 star wins so avoided discos as much as possible but thinking about it now the amount of absolutely ♥♥♥♥ bases in C1 that relied entirely on their towers to protect their th barching would have probably been a good option for 50% wins and better loot

Yeah disco towers are only beatable with giwipe and gowiwi, and even using them its very hard without 5 spells

you can also th snipe with barch

There are so many people over exaggerating how good their bases are or how good they are at hog raids... My layout is doing just fine and I am only losing on the 3rd or fourth raid because all of the traps/CC troops are gone. I'm only a TH9.
I'm using the layout OJM designed in one of the TH9 project threads. Some TH9s are unhoggable, unless you are a very, very skilled attacker.

Back on topic, I am only using BAM and was doing just fine getting to storages, as well as raiding collector bases, but the last two weeks have been dry for loot.

I beg to differ, almost any TH10 with 5 spells, CC, King, and Queen can wipe any TH9 anti hog design, or at least get 3/4 of all resources.

You cant argue with someone that gets attacked by a hog attacker who doesnt lure cc troops, doesnt kill king and queen, doesnt use healing spells and still thinks his base is very good against hogs lol

I thought my base was good against hogs since I had almost 100% success rate defending them and like others have said the only time I lost was when it was the third attack or so and traps, CC and heroes were down.

However once I started using them I soon realized I could beat any TH9 no matter the base design. Then I went up to masters where there are actually some decent hog users not the noobs in gold and about 3 in 4 attacks I received were are 3 star loss. Admittly most of them attacked when my heros were down still they rolled through my base with ease

As a max TH9 as well, I was able to farm with balloonians at 1600-1900 range, and Arch/Gob/Wbs for collector raids.
Main targets are premmie Th9s, TH8, and TH9s with Air Defenses outside/upgrading. 2 Heals/2 Rages for support if needed. Sometimes I am still able to get decent loot, and not all the time. I can't face off against Th10s and max Th9s with 350/350/2.5k though, but sometimes premmie TH9 and some Th8 are able to provide just as much loot except the DE part.

Never use hogs due to their insane cost and I have tons of DE upgrades to do and have too much Elixir with nowhere to spend on, so Balloonians with spells are definitely OK as an alternative.

It a Th10 throws 5 healing spells, 2 heros, and a full force at a Th9 - well they probably should crush a TH9.



Anyway, yes a good hog attack can get a stellar victory. But most of those hog attacks were working with other units and they executed well

Got some good runs today, some 300k in a few searches from inactives

This, I am TH10 with an Anti Hog design and two disco infernos and I still can loose two Gold Stores to a good TH10 hogger. I almost always "win" the defense cup wise, but it still hurts to loose 200K in gold. My last push I had over 30 defense wins - the majority were hogs. I think I got 1-2 star three or so times by hogs.

Sure you get the noob attack who does not lure CC or drops them all in one place. Those guys get schooled hard.

It is just hard to stop hogs from clearing out enough defenses around some of your gold stores. Then comes king, queen and lvl6 wizzies.

Good defense. Most good hoggers I have seen deploy in lines and use two waves. Soo, looking at your base, the first line should come from top or bottom corner. They should clear off defenses up to air defense on both sides. Then next wave heads straight to your core - heading to xbow.

Hogs deploy a lot like balloons. All you got to do is clear those outside defenses and the next wave will head right to the core. Or you can deploy them in a V pattern. Starting at the top points at the same time. The ones in middle/bottom part will head straight to the core since the outside buildings are destroyed.

Once your xbow in the core is down, wizzies and queen should have no troubles cleaning up. Perhaps your attackers see a TH9 and just get sloppy! I know I have before, lol.

I am farming in silver 1-2 using hogs, minions (10) , barb, arch ,gob,gob and all heal spells

this is how i set up my barracks and I don't worry about the ratio other then limiting the minions to about ten. It gives me great flexibility and I can get most of the loot out of any base. Seeing lots of 200k+-200k+ 500-1000de bases that I can take Biggest issue is running out of time before the loot is collected. I also us my heros lvl9 and lvl8 when they are not upgrading. Hogs are lvl 5 barbs 5 rest are maxxed.

Two gold storages would be considered a fail for most hoggers.

I had a noob hogger only manage to clear half my TH9 defenses, and yet his AQ and wizards manage to scrape 3 gold storages and all my DE. Half of the base is soooo easy to crack with hogs.

I consider it a defensive win (regardless push or farm) if the attacker has to put his queen to sleep.

True defeat is when the AQ and BK walks around your village untouched after.

Dude, two of those attacker used 1 heal spell, and the other only used 3 with no heroes. The more serious one used a rage, which is also a big no when it comes to hogging, also he had level 4 heal spells.

Those are not serious hoggers.

Hehe, my favorite was guy who dropped 35 hogs, 15 barbs, 6 wizzies, 5 archers, 2 heal, 2freeze, 1rage, lvl10Queen and level 9 king. Plus his cc which had a drag and two balloons. His take from me?! 0 Gold, 0 Elixir, 0 DE and 0 Cups. In fact he gave me 25 cups. If I was that dude my head would explode! :p

Of I think I had either a lvl4 drag or some wizzies/witches in CC. Totaly mauled him though! The funny thing is my cup base had two BLANTANT spots where two max big bombs were sitting side by side. Yet, some of these poor guys would drop 20+ hogs nearby and watch them turn into bacon! It was blatant because my base was square except in 2 spots where the walls jutted out enough to handle two big bombs. And that spot had a defense turret on either side. Personally I thought it was too obvious, but I was hopeing people would skip me cause it. But nope, instant bacon central.

Only downside to anti hog bases is this those darn farm giant based army REVENGES. Impossible to stop them from getting a single gold store. And you got ZERO cups on the defense since they were soo lower then you. That and dropping 90K+ in gold to rearm traps. Hated that.

Edit: Just clairfied about getting revenged by farmers.
Second Edit: When it comes to killing off hogs, nothing and I mean nothing beats them off like double max big bombs.

Why good hoggers drop them in a line.

Now record those replays, im sure i can point at least 5 mistakes in every th9 successful defense against hogs

And im pretty sure you can see the mistakes they made also, its rly not hard to see

In my last 30 defenses(something like that) with my town hall inside, i lost only one and won 29 of them, and my village is far from unbeatable. This happens because clash of clans is a pay2win game, otherwise we wouldnt see that many unskilled players with good villages and with high trophies, we shouldnt rely on our defense log that much, unless we are at champions maybe

i have 20 hogs use most of the time only 10 hogs... and win 100%
like right now i used 20 hogs and got 1.5k d.e

basicly made 500 d.e LOL won.

so ya when im using hogs i ussualy loko for 1k + to gain d.e instead of losing . unless its a near 300k +

You can see the battle log that i shared, willedyna from bandofbros has same base concept like you (anti hog base)
your base could be attacked from any direction, don't care about giant bomb n trap (you don't have inferno, so i don't need to predict giant bomb spot)
First, i would deploy 3-4 hog to lure your cc+ hero and destroy 1 def building at same time. After kill all cc troop n hero
Just deploy hog in 3 spot (same side), first drop each 5 hog on 2 corner (same side) to destroy def building (prevent hogs go arround) and then 2-3 second later, drop all you hog in middle of that side to make hog go to center of you base

Most of failed hog attack because they deploy all hogs on 1 spot (that's will make hog go arround against anti hog base), or didn't lure cc & hero. They key point of using hog are to make hog go to inferno n xbow as soon as possible and spell timing,
So before attack with hog, you have to know where you want to deploy your hog to make it go to center
And if they have inferno, you have to predict where the giant bomb, so you would use spell in the right time

They sure do and it's annoying.

I'm sorry OP, but you strike me as very impatient if Hogs are your only farming option.

Since I'm a nearly max th9 myself ....
i have to mention that hogs destroy th8 so easily ... But I don't see them whining about it loll

My solution so far is use the shield when u can't online for at least 4 Raids. Raid more than hogs do. Im nearly maks th9 and if im being 3 stars... It always hogs.

hogs own th9 but many including myself have shown th9's win lots of defences against hogs...

I happily farming with barch at th10 ;)
