I have been BArching and BAMing 1600-2000 for the last month after our trophy push. I can hardly remember where I hit next more than 15-20 times, sometimes hitting less than 10. I know this because after every single battle I am still waiting 10+ minutes for my Barch army to finish for the next attack. I probably make 10-15 attacks a day, usually in the afternoon or evening EST.
Granted, I am only finding high level empty collectors every few attacks (where as a TH9 I could take 100K+ gold without expending too many troops). But I am finding plentiful TH8 or premie 9/10 that have gold storages accessible to Barching yielding from 100K-200K each attack. It isn't the 250-500K per attack that most people dream of, but if you "play" 2-3 hours a day you shouldn't ever have a builder idle and you can do some walls here and there. By "play" I mean do an attack, then either log off or just touch screen while doing other things in between attacks. Those same bases usually have 100-400 dark elixir which accumulates over a lot of raids, and elixir is still VERY plentiful in that range.
BTW, I try to only collect 1 resource at a time - when I had 51,000 dark elixir saved for hogs, I dumped all my gold into walls/defensive builders. So for the most part I got free shields from town hall snipes, because few people at 1600-2000 send in a full army just for dark elixir.

Eh I don't consider this a loot sucks troll thread. Frankly, the beginning of any townhall is gonna be rough. You have new buildings, *gasp* elixir upgrades, and essential upgrades(xbow, inferno, splash). The only advice I have is to be more active than usual and move up in trophies. If you have hogs, use them on th9s for good gold. Good luck!
