What is the purpose of staying and maxing defenses?

for a farmer:

TH1-6 just rush...

TH7 until your army camp, and main troops maxed so you're ready to get lv.5 troops once TH8
TH8 until your lab, main troops and walls maxed... this is the sweet spot as you have overpowered lv.5 troops, so you have to farm as much as possible
TH9 until all def and walls maxed

I want to get to th10 so I can defend against hogs

You'll have much bigger problems than hogs if you go to th 10 prematurely.

There are countless people out there with a lvl 9 or 10 th right smack in the middle of a lvl 4 town. I farm these bases unmercifully. I look for and target such fools. So not only would you be trying to upgrade tons of defenses, but you'll be doing it with less resources from being raided constantly

Me too, various fun and entertaining armies to wipe TH8s and have a chance againts weak TH9s.

I am TH9 and will be maxing defensive buildings,
then considering if I should max everything in the lab,
then considering if I should be maxing walls (which looks like a joyless grind, so I don't know...)

But TH10 is looking like it is a long way away
