Let's all take a deep breath
Hi gang
I've been AWOL from the forum lately. My kids and even my husband got an extended winter break when we got over a foot of snow and then really cold temperatures. (Several days of below zero Fahrenheit which means no melting). So I've been hanging with my real life kids and not you guys. When I came back yesterday night, I was quite shocked.
It seems tempers got out of hand and emotions ran high and our poor overworked moderators got quite a workout. And I never saw the posts that got deleted or the PMs that must have been over the top. Threads got closed, posts deleted and forum members banned and others probably warned. To be clear, I have no inside information, but I can read and a closed thread sticks out like a sore thumb and the banned members are obvious.
So what caused all this turmoil? Our lovely game ! Let me start with a few disclaimers.
I have been called a SC cheerleader but I do NOT under any circumstances feel SuperCell is perfect. I am a firm believer that we should get a diamond confirmation button and think it would be unforgivable if we never get one. I have been lucky enough to be able to practice with this button as one of the farms in my family is a test farm. That being said, I think this is a great game. But I am not foolish enough to think it can't be improved. I love the fact that is is so dynamic.
Another disclaimer: I do not like the ideas that started the turmoil I am referencing. However and it's a big however, all ideas should be allowed to be expressed with respect. I hope future great ideas aren't met with the furor I saw last night.
Like most of you I love our easy going game, but I doubt I would have like the idea of a fishing spot when it was brought up. I still hate fishing, but not enough to quit. I hated the new nets, until someone came up with the idea that nets could be profitable if used exclusively, one after another. What I am saying is that good ideas often come out of what sounds like a horrible one.
One of the ideas that brought such backlash was having disasters introduced into hay day. Before I found hayday, I played such a game. Not only were the disasters devastating, but you needed premium currency to recover from them. This other game gave you one of these special coins with each new level but not nearly the amount you can get from hayday without using real cash. In addition some of the achievements or quests required the premium money. The only good thing about this game was that I found hayday from watching an ad. Now I don't expect all of you to have had evaluated this game but you can bet Supercell has seen it and other games that are out there. If they thought that disasters would help hay day, we would have seen them by now. They know what appeals to the majority of us and aren't likely to change the game so drastically. It is not necessary to crush the ideas of a newcomer, in order to make sure supercell doesn't implement them.
I'll be the first to admit that when someone new starts a bunch of new posts, going over the same old thing, I get annoyed. I sometimes scream at my iPad things like "hey dummy, ever heard of search". But the point is, that's where it ends. So when someone asks for the 987th time, "What is the maximum barn size?", I'll either dash out a post with the answer, and refer them to the other helpful stickies, or I'll move on and let someone else do it.
I also understand that some forums encourage people to start "their own" threads, implying some ownership of such things. And on the surface these forums do too. Your post count is under your name. But the hay day community actually discourages this if you read first and it is preferred that you build your post count by participating in established threads.
Eventually this point gets across, but we don't need to hit folks over the head with it.
So how about we all start a New Years resolution to be kind. I'll try to limit my yelling to my iPad, and we all try to make new folks with new ideas welcome. And if you see someone violating the terms of service, use the triangle and report it instead of getting nasty or condescending, which will just result in more name calling and more deleted posts, threads or members. If you just have to rant about someone or something, pm a friend and do it in private. Don't confront the poster, and remember that the written word is so easy to misunderstand. We have a lot of different cultures here and what may be ok in one is not always ok in another.
Let's have fun!
Ok that's all I have

I must have been snoozing. I didn't see anything that would have gotten anyone banned. Just strong opinions. Oh dear.
