Question: Xbow are they worth it to be well defended?

Hello!

I am currently at townhall level 8 and it's 7 days away to TH level 9 for me.
I had already maxed everything at TH 8 (with exception of afew level 7 walls)

I will be using this whole coming week to design and make one base of my own.
I had made some references with afew post here and I am wondering. Is the Xbow really that good to be protected at the center of the base compared to my two heroes or resource storage? (And yes I am a farmer. Trophy does not concern me.)

From what I can conclude a Xbow is basically a archer tower with longer range and costs some elixir.
I doubt I will use the "Only land unit" firing mode

From my personal experience is that a more common approach of a attacker will be using a combination of healing spells and rage spells with giants and/or War hogs.

so is it better to put both xbow at the center to deal a constant DPS to those healing giants or leave the slots in the center for barb king/archer queen and let them deal a decent DPS on them?
Do note that I will still put the xbow close to the center, it is so that it will cover most of the base and will make short work on those units who are trying to lure my barb king/queen out.

Btw I'm always open to comments and helps about base building. ;)

What is their benefit over an archer tower or cannon

Xbows in the centre 100%!!Have you ever tried to lure an xbow?Lol yeah its not gonna work,Heroes are easily lured and dealt with and if you're facing a hog army then 90% will lure the heroes first.Xbows on the other hand are the most important defense after splash IMO and therefore should be protected as such

Yes. You are right. They can't be lured. But I always have no problem with TH9 bases even though I'm using TH8 troops.
Afew giants and one well placed healing spells with 60+ well spread archers will clear half of the base without one dying.
But I usually have problem with barbarian kings and queens if I never lure them.

Question is does the Xbox works better firing away from another side of the base (I will put them on opposite sides)
Or will they fare better sitting at the center to be moved into?

Their dps is comparable to an at or cannon in the beginning. That much is true. However, the at and cannon shoot at a much slower rate. For example, lets say it a cannon shoots every one second and it takes two hits to kill an archer (yes I know this isn't anywhere near the exact number). The cannon will take 2 seconds to kill the archer whereas the xbow, which fires very rapidly, might take a second and a quarter. That along with the range of an xbow make it crucial.

Look at it this way.

At TH8, you main defenses are
1) 6 Splash towers: 3 wiz, 3 mortars.
2) 3 Tesla << the super underrated

FYI,
TH8 max level tesla dps is 75dps at Lv6.
A TH9 Lv3 Xbow has 75dps.

Most of us should be running a farming base.
Meaning splash towers in triangle, well coverage over our important resource storages.
With 6 splash, tier 1 troops without proper tank distraction goes down easily.

But if attackers come with tanking units like giants, pekka how ?
Single dps will be required, in which tesla, which has the highest dps at TH8 will be required.
But its range is so short.

In which you will look at other dps defense like archers towers.
But honestly, X Bow > archer tower any day.
Although the dps is the same, but if you look at the area of coverage, as well as dmg per shot, the advantage is not to be belittled.

Hence after hitting th9, most TH8ers will look to quickly get the xbow to cover up their lack of single target dps as compared to their th8 days.

TL:DR;
just put it in the middle, or somewhere close, its good.

Ahh yes. I'm looking for replies like this. I will put them somewhere close to the center but not at the center like most people.

I recommend you to put them in the middle or at least lose to the middle.

Definitely put them in the centre ;)

the most effective place for your crossbows are on either side of your clan castle, in the absolute core of your base.

Two things to remember off the jump;
You are still basicallyTH8 defense wise until you get your TH9 upgrades up and running (one week forX-bow lvl 1) and in turn; still TH8 offense wise till you get Lab->Troops/SF/Camps up to TH9.. (so you may consider that before you change your current layout)

on topic.

To me X-Bows are the ArchyTwr/Tesla hybrid, they have great range (esp on ground mode) and fast strikes (Tesla-esque) and can be switched to Air/Ground.. the premier weapon in TH9, absolutely versital!

Having said that, on my Main acct* I use mine to cover the the Air Defenses and exterrior walls in Air/Ground mode toward the ‘Front’ and ‘Rear’ - rear being under construction atm- of my layout. (as I farm in Crystal 2-3 or Gold 1 and air attacks and Giant Healer is more common... when serious attakers come sniffing my loots) I still keep my Splash WizTwrs/Mortars surrounding my Vault-esque centralized storage containers. (admittedely I am in a transition stage, as many turrets need upgrading and I design my base around the active turrets available, and cast out the upgrading ones to distract/delay on the border of my layouts most often) When the hogs come I just cut my losses.. (prefer to keep my base balanced verse an anti-hog one)

Junliang is spot on with the DPS for Tesla, if you have not neglected them, they are very powerful fast hitting uints. I typically use mine to cover for the mortar blind spot since they have low range.

On my mini Acct^** I use the X-Bows on the lower part of my layout, in a more centralized fashion (more true to what peeps have been boasting in this thread already) in a Splash heavy ‘Top’ and a more Point heavy ‘Bottom” of that farming layout.
This base is very premature and also very early TH9, so the priorities are quite different than my main acct.

Also as a personal preference, I use my heros Strictly for offensive purposes. they are easily lured IME and can be terminated easily by a few measly Tier 1 farming troops, so mine sleeping and I rely on my turrets and setup to defend my loots.

Dont listen to these guys! xbows are overrated! You should just go straight on th th10 without them ;) Hehe
