If you're an Apple user, you can add friends through Game Center. If you're an Android user, you're stuck with Facebook.
You can also follow other farms, and they will show up on your friends tab. But you can only follow 5 farms at a time.
The tickets you asked about are called vouchers. You get them by filling your boat orders, truck orders asking for jewelry, sometimes by spinning on the wheel of fortune (first spin is free) and sometimes in the red boxes.
