Hello. Welcome to the forums.
Unfortunately, there is no way to delete messages in your in-game inbox. However I am unsure if messages remove themselves over time. About being an elder, it means you can promote members to elder, but you can not demote them afterwards. Also, you can kick out members and invite people to join your clan. Elders have a kick cool down of 20 minutes after kicking someone out.

U can't delete inbox message.
The advantages of elders are:
a) invite others to join ur clan
b) reject others' requests
c) promote members to elders
d) can only be kicked by leader
e) kick members every 20 minutes
Being elder means access to the executive lounge where they have 'lazyboy' recliners and a cappucino machine (wink)
